10k BOOM!๐Ÿ’ฅ

There is so much I could put here about my own journey to this place (Iโ€™ve written and rewritten this post countless times in my head during my runs). So herewith is the latest iteration. Sorry if its too long.

October 2016 new heart valve to fix an inherited issue - I couldnโ€™t walk uphill with out blacking out.

All good but then three days later a stroke that robbed me a bit of peripheral vision and hence the ability to drive.

(I wasnโ€™t sure if I was going to add that paragraph but I decided to leave it in case anyone else is in a similar position and doubts if they can complete C25k and B210k. If I can, you can...)

May 2018 felt strong enough to start C25k and boy what a shock! Who would have thought running for a minute could be so tough?!

September 2018 graduated and first Parkrun.

October 2018 10k!

Big thank you to all you lovely people here who have inspired and supported me along this journey.

Now, Iโ€™m off to find a 10k to half marathon plan... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi MatildasPb, I shall be 62 on Thursday. Thinking of changing my user name to 61+andtrying. I haven't had to deal with the health issues that you have, but neither do I have the background of being a marathon survivor!

I'm sure most people after dealing with your health issues wouldn't even dream of running. So to complete 10k and now looking at going onto a half marathon .... completely inspirational and I am in awe!

Thanks, onwards and upwards is the way to beat the black dog stalking in the shadows. I wonโ€™t let it get as close as the over friendly Jack Russell I met on this morningโ€™s run. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a fantastic post. 10km already ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Iโ€™m in awe. And so delighted for you. I want to read more of your posts so watch out, Iโ€™m following you. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Thanks,

We went out on Friday night to a fund raising quiz night where (unusually for me) I had a couple of pints of Guinness and a fish supper. I'm putting my Saturday morning 10k achievement down to that. So from now on that'll be my training regime. Forget pasta it's Guinness and chips for me - hehe only kidding.

I'm going to spend a few weeks consolidating the 10k which will give me a chance to look around for the bridge to HM plan that suits me best. I'll let you know which I go for. Do you know of any good ones to try?

Cheers ๐Ÿป ๐ŸŸ

Bob

Hehe - I had fish and chips and some beer on Friday night and ran a pb at Parkrun on Saturday morning - there might be something in this plan!

I donโ€™t know of any half marathon plans either but I think I will start looking round like you after some consolidation. Iโ€™ll let you know - there may be some info on the marathon forum.

Thanks Bob -
