Can anyone suggest whether it is possible that I have bruised the ball of my foot and if so do I need to rest it for a bit? Running is not too painful as my running shoes are so springy but I hobble In ordinary shoes. Is this a common injury? I have not come across it before?

Bruised foot
If you can't walk normally then don't go running.
I occasionally get bruised heels, but only blisters and callouses on the balls of my feet.
Rest is probably indicated 😕

What did you do to it?
I have bruised the sole of my foot by landing hard on sharp stones while windsurfing. I found it took a few weeks for the soreness to go away, but it wasn't enough to stop me from getting on with things. Pain is your guide, though!
Injury to the soles of the feet can linger because it's difficult to avoid aggravating it - walking being an fairly unavoidable activity 😊. Wearing your runners sounds like a good idea, painkillers may help too. You would be wise to consider a routine of simple foot stretches to help keep your fascia and tendons properly mobile, particularly if your pain dictates rest.

Thanks everyone. The good news is it feels easier after just 2 days rest and while I am not sure what caused it I think it may have been some shoes I wore on Wednesday that I had not worn for a while. I am off to try a Park Run this morning for the first time - just to learn the course and try and complete it without walking. Hopefully the foot will not be an issue. I feel I have made so much progress with running - lost weight and hugely improved my stamina since I started rather haphazardly in April.
Well, we can't give specific medical advice here, but if my feet feel sore after a run I find rolling them out on a tennis ball really helps.
