I have just completed week 2 of the 10 is the magic number plan, so my longest run up to now has been 6k. To keep myself motivated I’m going to sign up for a trail run near where I live, in November, which includes a 5k and a 10k option (also a 20k but I’m nowhere near that yet!).
The question is, do I play safe and sign up for 5k, or challenge myself to the 10k? If all goes according to plan I should be running 10k by the end of October, which would give me about 3 weeks to the date of the trail run

Challenge yourself! You’ve got plenty of time to build up to 10k (and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you hadn’t run the full distance before race day) 😊😊
I'd play safe..but that is just me... unless you run the trails regularly... I would opt for the 5K and see how it all feels.. but as I say...that is just me. I'd rather go and enjoy than feel any pressure to challenge myself
I guess a Trail is going to be much harder all round and what if it's horrible weather and really tough underfoot? Sounds like you might have time to prepare though I personally wouldn't have it in me! .Good Luck with your decision.
