How often do you run 10K?

Sorry if this seems a daft question but I’m intrigued, when folk finish the b210K, do you still try to run three times a week with one of them being a 10K? I’m looking to start ju-ju’s plan soon, I’m building up to it, I’m pleased that I’m managing three 5K runs a week so nearly ready to make the leap.

I started off doing them every week but I get bored on long runs. Kind of weird as I’m now thinking of going to HM 😂 I envisage problems along the way 🤔 I try to do intervals each week too. I’m going to have to get back into it but it’ll be easier when the weather cools off. That’s when I intend going for longer runs. It sounds like you’re definitely ready to bridge. I found it a lot easier than c25k. Good luck and well done with your progress so far! 🥂👌🏽

I’ve been wondering the same thing and have a couple of weeks to go on b210k. I plan to aim for three runs a week but set no other target on it at the moment, although will try and make one slightly longer (maybe 8 maybe 10k- whatever my body tells me and time allowing). I love 5k as it really fits in with my life but now I have done some longer runs, I’ve enjoyed these too but less practical- especially as we head into shorter days.

I think most peeps on this forum are either on their way to 10K via juju’s plan or manage a 10K fairly often. I personally have only done 2 or 3 since graduating at Xmas but that’s because I prefer the shorter distances I.e. 5k. Also, because I have dodgy hips and back I prefer to keep the runs short. My goal is ultimately to break 24 minutes for 5k and I’m planning to get close this Saturday at the Banbury Parkrun! Let’s see. I only run 3 times a week. One slower longish one, one HIIT based run and one flat out 5k.

Sounds like a good plan, good luck for Saturday.

That’s a very good question and many of us did the aftermath differently. I focused on 30min and below for two 5Ks with one slow 10K per week and once l got really comfortable l went on to train for HM where everything got a bit more structured but don’t worry about it just yet. ;)

I really believe that we all should do it the way it suits us individually (none of us is a pro, thank god for that) and follow other runners’ experiences and general guides as reference points. I did and so far it’s worked for me. Once you hit the buffers, ask the forum and there will be a plethora of knowledge shared.

Enjoy & all the best!

I have been doing 10k pretty much twice a week with a shorter run either in between or to follow up. A lot depends on time constraints and routes. If you can find a pleasant 10k route you like and you have the time, why not?

Everyone is different and once you're comfortable with the extra distance it's just down to preference really 👍

Not got there yet. My intention is to get there, consolidate by doing it every week for a few weeks (perhaps going a little bit beyond 10k), then make it a roughly once a month thing, running 7 or 8 as my usual long run. That way I’ll feel confident to train up to it at fairly short notice to do an event.

I'm glad you asked as I'd been wondering the same. Can't see me carving out that much time very frequently! But when I finally hit 10K it would be good to keep up that ability.

After I graduated from c25k I was doing 5K three times a week for a good few weeks before starting the B210k then I found I was only managing to go out twice a week with being busy at work etc. When I first got to 10k I found i needed more recovery days and still do!! I have osteoarthritis and although running helps it’s still quite painful!! Anyway I still go at least twice a week (a 5 k usually and a 10 k or slightly longer maybe ever other week! ) I’ve got lovely routes and scenery around me which helps! No plans for any HM in near future however!!!! 😀

My first 10ks were relatively few and far between. But after about a year of running I decided that had to change and I made sure my long weekend run was a minimum 10k (I got up to HM distance). Since this hot weather I haven’t been doing longer runs though and I think my last 10k was in May. But I know they’re in there, lurking in my legs and when the temperatures get a bit lower I will build up again. 10k is a great distance and it’s a great achievement!

In the cooler weather, I aim for one a week. However, haven't done one for a few weeks as I loss my routine a little with busy weekends, the heat and illness! The plan is to get back there though. I also like to do an 8/9 miler every couple of months butI think my last one was probably in May.

I try to do at least one long run a week, 8k or more.

I try to do one long run a week - and 2 or three shorter (A couple around 5k and a shorter intervals run).

However you should do what suits you - we're all different after all.

Good luck with your 10k

Since graduating B210k early July I’ve managed at 10K once a week. Because I have a 10K race in Oct I’ll continue to do at least 10K - 12k once a week with another 2 shorter runs.

After Oct looking at upping my distance to HM. 🙄😬

It's entirely up to you and what you want to achieve. There really is no right or wrong answer, but if you want to maintain the ability to run 10k then probably you should revisit the distance at least once a month.

Some people have the time and love for running for an hour or more(or less if your quick) and will do it often, some will be training for longer distances so 10k becomes quickly the short run(I don't seem to get to do 5k anymore), some will decide they don't have the time so may never run it again or will train back up to it every time they want to do a 10k race.

All roads are fine and I would wait until you have done 10k before steering your ship :)

My 10K pace and HM pace is very slow 10mins / km.So it results in plenty hours of running, particularly distance.

I very much like JuJu’s concept, for her, of HM readiness.

I have simply scaled that back to 10K readiness and will test the readiness once per month by doing 10K or upto 15k max.

I have started running daily, short runs 3k and building upto 5k.

So my plan is to run daily for 3 weeks, 21- 35k / week and in the fourth ease back to a 21k week that includes a 10-15k long run.

So just one 10-15k / month.

I will see how it works out, today will be doing my twelfth consequitive day since embarking on this Freelance plan.🤔

Early days but I have certainly decided to concentrate on a pace improvement for a little while and put distance on the back burner for the moment.

Good luck with your plans, whatever you decide.💥🏃‍♀️💥

It’s up to you. You’re body will soon let you know if you’re doing too much or need another day of rest.

Just answering due to your comment about shorter days, soon there will be questions about which head torch people use - winter gear a whole new world of equipment!

Yay I’m so pleased you will be doing the plan... I think for me when I got to 10k I tried to do one a week or thereabouts but it’s really up to you

Hi Tate,

I do........

I’ve only been running since Feb this year and only did my first 10k at the start of June - now run two 5k in the week and 10k on Sundays. I try and build my speed during the week to help me with the 10k. Don’t think I could ever run two 10k in a week!! (Mind you.... I said that about running 5k in 30 mins 😂)

Actually I tend to pootle along doing my 30 minutes or so... and then every so often I think "Hang on, time I did a 5k/10k" just to be sure I can still do it. And do. And sign up for a virtual medal if I really feel I need a bit of a push. Otherwise, all about the route, where do I want to go, what to I want to see.
