4 weeks post grad - 5k and NEW SHOES πŸ‘Ÿ!!

Hi all. This is my first post in B210K forum as I didn’t really feel I was up there with you guys all running really long distances! So I decided to consolidate for a few weeks and now I’ve decided to keep running 5k regularly to get myself comfortable with it which seems to be happening slowly! I did it in 33.20 minutes this morning according to Strava which I am really pleased with. I bought these shoes weeks ago but only wore them for school sports day at the end of term as didn’t want to jinx anything but I noticed this morning that my trusty New Balance have a small hole in the toe so today I’ve decided to wear the new ones round the house to break them in - I LOVE THEM 😍.

My plan is to keep running 5k 3 times a week until I go on holiday then when I come back I think I’m going to attempt to do the 10K plan. Also doing my first park run this weekend - really looking forward to it - so I’m having a good week so far with loads to look forward to! Loving this running malarkey! Have a good day everyone and happy running πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ 😊 😎 πŸ˜β€οΈπŸ‘Ÿ

P.S. that’s Dobby’s brother Dexter looking thoughtful on the back of the sofa πŸ• πŸ’•

I would be thrilled to do 5k in your time so well done.

Saucony shoes, and a gorgeous colour; they go brilliantly with your purple socks!

And is that a Saluki lurcher I see? Or even a smooth Saluki. I've got one of those - you can see her on my profile banner. xx

Thanks Flick - I love the colour of them - need to be seen to make sure people get out of the way quickly haha!

Yes he’s a Saluki lurcher! And the one on my profile photo (with my daughter) is my running buddy Dobby - our 3rd Saluki lurcher and 4th lurcher. Ace dogs. πŸ• x

Oh and just looked at your banner - beautiful dogs! πŸ’•

Isha, my one, is the white one. The other one belongs to someone else. And look at Dobby, very like my Isha to look at. i had Salukis for 40 years, but they are a liability now, no good here with livestock and traffic, and they are a target for theft. I would love to run with Isha, but she wants to wrap her lead round my legs, weave across my path and stop to sniff every two yard.

She’s very like Dobby - and I agree about them being a liability. We can’t let Dobby off the lead at all as she would be gone forever. She has no recall and neither did our last one. Dexter’s not so bad - being a boy he’s less confident about losing sight of us. Dobby is ok to run with until she sees a cat or squirrel, pigeon etc! X

Isha is really good off lead, though if she sees something running she will take off after it, but she has no prey drive. She once chased a deer, but when it stopped and went into some bushes she just shrugged and came back, then began chasing round with another dog. I think she has something non hound in her - the travellers breed collie into them sometimes to get a better recall, then breed it out so that it's invisible. Anyway, she has a very busy nose, which I've never had in a hound before. I love pointy dogs x

Haha I love the thought of her shrugging and coming back - they have such fantastic personalities! They are great dogs I agree - although definitely with many foibles! Dexter barks loads - almost like he can’t help himself - which none of our other lurchers have done. Dobs is only just 2 so still a baby - we’ve only had her 11 months. X

They are amazing and individual. We have a collie/arctic (probably spitz) as well, and i love him dearly, but it took me ages to get used to his personality, very anal and logical, not intuitive like hounds. I'm definitely a hound person.

Haha he looks as if he really likes your shoes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Well done on carrying on after graduation and consolidating. This will stand you in good stead when you start increasing mileage. I carried on with 5/6K's for about a year after graduation simply because I loved them and there was no pressure to go further. Joyful times πŸ€—

Have a great holiday (I hope you're taking your running kit) enjoy park run and keep going.

Thank you so much Irishprincess - definitely taking running gear on holiday - although it will be very hot I’ve already decided to do some shorter runs just to keep it up as I’m away for a fortnight! β˜€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I am enjoying 5ks so will see where they take me. I’m a bit worried about increasing distance so may stick where I am for a bit longer. Will see! 😘 x

I’m well impressed with you! I’m nowhere near 5k yet, just managing 4K in 30 mins but need to start pushing on now, but like you may leave it til after my hols. Aim to do at least 2 runs whilst away. Love your shoes, and your dog has a look of envy in his eyes! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Thank you! You’re doing fine and will get there - I do have a mad dog pulling me along which helps with time!

How long are you away for? I’m going to try 4 or 5 runs in the fortnight if I can but we will see! There will definitely be late nights and alcohol involved so I may be over estimating a little πŸ˜†!

Xx

10 days, so hoping one every 3 days, heat permitting. Need to be up early, not like today, still in dressing gown!

Amazing - have the best time. And dressing gowns are good! Make the most of being off work! X

Good to see you here. It's not all mega distances and stats on the Bridge. Some of us are still aspirational 10kers and looking ahead to the day we can do it. You will fit in perfectly and have fun. Your 5k is impressive, as are your shoes.

LOL! Love the way doggo is eyeing up the shoes. Hope he is not a "chewer"!

Sounds like you are doing grand with your consolidation, and enjoying it too, which is the key I think. I pootled around for 6 months after graduating before doing the 10k plan, but am sure I could have tackled it sooner. Lack of confidence was my issue, but in reality, I found it easier than C25K if I am honest!

Have a lovely holiday!

Definitely not a chewer thank goodness! πŸ˜†.

I am enjoying it now - I did struggle after graduation and I would agree that confidence is an issue with me also.

Thank you - I will! β˜€οΈ 🌊 😜 x

I absolutely love saucony, I’m quite flat-footed and these have always served me well, it’s like running on sponges!! Anyhow, the doggo is looking on in admiration at your shoes, mine tries to chew them and return them as a gift!! Best of luck with the running, the shoes are fab
