Enjoy your first harvest running. Wet and cold here. Been raining since the weekend. I can’t believe it was ever hot - I’ve had the heating on today. Looks like a trail shoe day tomorrow. xxx

Yea, mud will be back soon!! 👎

We're lucky in the southeast... sunshine is back with clear skies...heating up towards the weekend. Only about 22° today.

The sun keeps struggling from behind black clouds. It’s SUPPOSED to be warming up!

Out on the cloudaces again for me this evening, gonna save the trail for the weekend and have a new big adventure.

in reply to pinkaardvark

How are you finding them?

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Mostly by the front door, they are the ones with not as much mud on them :)

in reply to pinkaardvark

Haha very informative. What does mrs Aardvark think of all these muddy shoes?

My good lady doesn't mind a muddy shoe to be honest, she's quite outdoorsey and used to teach duke of edinburgh etc.

The cloudaces are settling in, I was in two minds on the first run, but the 11k I did on sunday seemed to have let me get used to them. From a comfort point of view, they fit and feel very familiar with no rubbing or oddness that you get with some new shoes. I'd say the diference is in the enhanced cushioning and the springiness from the speedboard tech.

I was running fatigued on both runs I have used them but especially on sunday as it was on the back of the 22k i did saturday night and as such I expected to have a bit of shin pain. I have had mild shin pain ever since starting c25k, i'm hesitant to say shin splints as it never got to the stabbing pain some report, more just the feeling that my shins were bruised. If the cat jumped on my shins or the little guy climbed on me they would both get barked at because it nipped sorely lol. But it never really slowed me down or got worse than bruised feeling and sore when pressed.

But the last 11k I felt very fresh and cosseted on the cloudaces and definitely better protected than the cloudflyers. Not that the cloudflyers had issues, just that with the big increase in mileage I thought it was worth trying for a bit more protection for at least some of my runs. The cloudventures are amazing also though, and if I can get away with it I'd like a lightweight speedwork pair of Ons also hehe.

in reply to pinkaardvark

Thanks for this.very comprehensive. They sound excellent. I find the flyers quite cushioned. I get mild shin pain too but it goes away after a day. I just ordered the Cloudsurfers. That really has to be it then. My last dip into my inheritance before it all goes towards moving house. My total favourites so far in terms of speed and comfort are the Peaks

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Crikey, you already had two pairs of On shoes before the peaks, now some surfers too. Good thing you can't go up a size in shoes hehe

in reply to pinkaardvark

I’m finding I use the clouds less and less. They are very lightweight and comfortable but they don’t feel inspiring Toruń in. The Peaks are like magic. They just make running so much fun, and I love the flyers. The flows are nice too

We just ran in 23°c in the sunshine! We were just saying that the cold snap didn't last long!

in reply to MikeJones68

It’s always cold here ask TedG , well it was hot but it’s cold now 😕

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply to MikeJones68

Yep, temperature can be 4/5deg lower in Chippy... Flick only lives about 12miles from me.

Just a sniff of snow and it gets cut off. The town is 700/800ft above sea level 😎

in reply to TedG

Don’t I know it. I’m stressing about the course at Blenheim because the organisers say it’s tough and previous participants have said its hilly, but, really can it be any worse than round here?

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply to

You’ll be fine, they’ll feel like simple gradients compared to what you do.

Look at the elevation on my Blenheim 7k post on Strava 😊

in reply to TedG

Thanks Ted, off to look now x

in reply to TedG

They are small. I’m guessing they are sharp inclines that don’t go on for long

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply to

Blenheim was 94mtr elevation gain compared to the 153 on your 12k Run where you got lost 😊

in reply to TedG

And nearly killed myself lol

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply to

That was because you had no water! 😊

in reply to TedG

This is true

TedG profile image
TedGGraduate10 in reply to

Look at Pinks post, he’s referring to how high you are above se level 😊

in reply to TedG

😂😂😂 yes and take kegs of brandy to stranded tourists

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Lol just reflecting on the 700"ft elevation and getting cut off at a whiff of snow. Very alpine is chippy it seems 👍😂

in reply to pinkaardvark

Put it this way, when friends come over from oxford they always complain it’s several degrees colder here, and it rains a lot!

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Yeah well they would wouldn't they. They're from Oxford 😜

in reply to pinkaardvark

Erm ... wot ???

in reply to pinkaardvark

Plus it’s more than a whiff of snow. The town is mostly on top of a hill and in their wisdom they put the post depot at the bottom (probably because there was once a railway station there) with the consequence that when it snows they can’t deliver the mail. The main car park is on a slope too so cars get snowed in. Everything gets snowed in, buses don’t run and deliveries can’t get in for up to a week. Such fun!

And Chipping Norton has one of the best fish and chip shops I know :)

in reply to MikeJones68

No good to me, i'm vegan. love chip shop chips, but they cook them in with the fish and sausages.

Sunshine here, blue skies although quite breezy but still nice. Great washing drying weather. 😁

in reply to limberlou

The skies are clearing here now but it’s not warm 😕

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to

Mind you I’m always warm, my daughter and sister will be wearing 3 layers and I’ll be in capris and a short sleeve tee shirt. And I have several lovely coats and probably wear a coat about 5 times a year.

in reply to limberlou

I feel the cold. Mr I don’t snore is the opposite. We have battles over windows 😡

Oh, I’ve just received an email about my August Run challenge ( don’t worry I’m walking it). Wasn’t it you who asked about Virtual Runs? This one, which I entered to incentivise me to get moving off the couch, has quite a few things for actually doing the run.

It’s £10 or £12 to enter ( can’t remember which)and you get a medal, certificate, ice towel and a running belt bag.

You can run or walk or jog

I missed that one when I was looking. That’s a very generous deal. fantastic!

Me too! Just signed up for the race at your pace challenge before coming on here - that'll teach me to get my priorities right 😄. There are so many different ones now, it's hard to keep up.

in reply to AnnieW55

Which distance did you go for? I nearly did 50 miles this month but I thought 75 miles might be pushing it a bit right now

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to

I'm training (loose term 😄) for the York marathon in October (my first) and am not doing any events along the way so I signed up for 100miles in July and have just signed up for the same in August to keep me on track. Maybe I'll give the other site a go in September.

in reply to AnnieW55

Oh, fantastic. I’m not quite ready to run 100 miles in a month 😉 I’m looking forward to seeing your post when you’ve done the marathon 😊

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to

I'm definitely not speedy, so hoping I really am built for endurance. I'm just wanting to finish on the same day as everyone else 😄. Any report will be a view from the back 😂

in reply to AnnieW55

Do you know what the cutoff time is? That's what worries me. i know i can keep running, but I'm very slow.

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to

I don't, haven't seen it anywhere so I'll just trundle on. Just looked at the T&Cs and they say the organisers have the right to introduce cut off times (for safety reasons) so looks like there isn't one.
