Bridge to Madness, Fortnight 3 Part 1

So 2 Wk 3 runs knocked off before my trip oop north to the Lakes, and to see the mighty Stanley start their League 1 campaign on Saturday.

Heat was replaced by a young westerly gale (well, maybe a Force 4/5) on Southsea prom for Saturday morning's Parkrun. This blew me down to Eastney in a near record 11'40", then slapped me in the face after the turn for a 13'17" return trip - but left me well chuffed by the overall 24'57".

Today I went fartleking about, on the prom again with a bit less wind. A gentlish 5'12" k to start with, then 4 reps of a fartlek routine based on lampposts - I was hoping for 1 lamppost trotting, 1 cantering and 1 galloping but discovered a 10 second gallop, all I could muster, was only just over half a lamppost, and I then needed one and a half at the trot to recover. Those 4 reps took me just over a k in 5 minutes. The next 500m took 3'20", starting at a crawl and recovering to respectability, before a second set of 4 reps and a final stagger brought me through the last k to 3.5k in 18'57" total. An interesting experience but I think I'll go back to 30:20:10 next time.

So I now aim to complete fortnight 3 with a Parkrun in Accy on Saturday, and a gentle 7k probably next Wednesday. Come on Stanley!
