Wet Wet Wet 🌧

β€’20 Replies

No, I wasn't running with Marti Pello tonight, although I did have my 80's mix on again, Electric Dreams... never gets old.

The title pretty much describes the run, my clothes and my trainers, all pretty much soaked through! πŸ’¦

Even the inconsiderate white van man πŸš™and the speedy hatchback πŸš— didn't dampen my mood by giving me a pavement bath, πŸ›€ I mean there's only so wet you can get! In the words of Vienna by Ultravox which was playing in my ears at that precise moment "This means nothing to me..."! So ... jog on drivers!!! πŸ˜›

Someone was having a laugh no doubt. After raining most of the day, the sun had come out and the pavements dried up, so I laced up and headed out the door without my new rain coat. Didn't get 1K along the road before realising my folly. πŸ™„

The old me would've probably headed home but the new me, the runner, πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ tipped her cap 🧒 and refreshed the techniques quietly: shoulders relaxed; pick up those heels, cycle legs and drive those arms.

So how is my form? Not sure about that, but I did manage to sneak up on 2 dog-walkers who nearly jumped out of their skins with my feet kissing the pavement and no discernible panting going on!

I'm so pleased I cobbled my 10K route from 2 x 5K routes. This meant my OH could chum me to the mid-point before heading home and I have a choice whether to bail or try for a long run. Today it was the latter.

The bonus: returning home to a hot shower and dinner all lovingly prepared.

Rain or not, you could say today was a perfect day!

😁

Form is great. What an amazing come back run! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you Jay! I really didn't expect it all to come together so well. Before I get too cocky, I better rein it in and see whether I get the dreaded DOMS! πŸ˜–

DOMS??

β€’ in reply toJay66UK

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness - pain felt usually 24 to 72 hours after exercise. I used to get them bad from gym classes and esp weights.

Much better these days which I think is down to slow build up to running and better hydration.

In my mind I would think, 30 minute class that's pathetic so would go too hard and suffer. Also mixing classes meant you were hitting new muscles but expecting previous classes to have built up some endurance! Stupid really.

Every day a school day. This is high among the reasons I avoid gyms - walking like John Wayne for 48 hours 🀠

Yay! You are back, Sutsha! And in such fine form, too. And oh, I LOVE running in summer rain. Very pleased to hear about your lovely run, well done! x

β€’ in reply toSadie-runs

Was really brilliant, rain dripping of my cap, splashing as I ran, just epic. Passing dog-walkers happed up trying to stay warm and dry and looking at me as if I was utterly mad! Smiling back because they just don't know...

Asked OH if he was enjoying it as much as me when he was finishing up his 5K - "hell no" he mouthed back. He's not a proper runner! πŸ˜‰

😘

It was more an experiment to see if you really don't lose fitness in 2 weeks! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Great running, I keep trying to improve my form too as I don't cycle my legs enough and i'm a slow shuffler. I'm finding the mantra 'drive those knees' seems to help as I think about driving them forward, I can almost feel the propulsion from it and it subconsciously makes them lift a bit higher too, combined with the steam train pistoning of the arms the two when they come together feel great. Well done for running through the car soakings as well, I have been so lucky in my 9mths of running in that I have hardly ever got rained on and only had a few soaking runs in the winter, but I do recall a few having car waves and they were certainly refreshing when it was minus zero outside hehe.

I'm now very grateful the rain was warm, else I might've been far less forgiving!

My mantra for cycle legs is "pick up those heels", which probably came from previous advice from you on one of the posts on here! (On a 'how to run faster' post).

Used Samsung so first time I got to see my cadence: average 165, max 212. So I'm thinking I might work on reaching an average of 170.

Slow shuffler: I've seen your pace, nothing slow about it!!!

Oh what a perfect day! Did you ever think you’d be saying that?! Well done πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

β€’ in reply toJelon

Definitely not. Don't like the cold, wouldn't choose to go out on the rain far less embrace it! 😊 #changeddays
