Hi guys!!! So after doing my first 10K at the beginning of this year, I participated in and finished 2 10K races and was very happy with myself. and thought a little break won't hurt!! and then the Indian summer sent in and it was all downhill from there.

Long story short, six months down the line, I have started running again and taking it a bit slow. Not running continuously yet and only doing 3.5 k max.

Need some encouragement as I plan to do half marathon at the end of this year!!

Maybe you could take encouragement in the form of a half marathon training plan? Have a look online for a free one. You still have quite a while to go until your half, so why not work on another 10k race in the meantime. You know you can do those, and it looks as though you enjoyed them! And 10k is pretty much halfway to a half marathon, so I'm sure you can do that too. Have fun running further :)

That is a good idea!!! I am already running a 5K in about 15 days...but it is mostly to get my 9year old into running :). So can't do a 10K in that one.

But let me find another 10K after that even if it is a virtual one.

Thanks for your reply :)

Perfect! And how lovely that you're running with your kid - you may end up encouraging each other :)

Trying to gently get him into it...but don't want to push him. He is only 9 and had flat feet and plays tennis. So I feel a bit scared sometimes of him getting injured.

The joys of parenthood! Try not to worry, it's likely to be to his benefit.

Go parkrunning ….. start off at the back talking to the tailwalkers, break into a trot when you feel like it, encourage the people you will then overtake …… it's only 5k and will remind you running's fun :-)

Unfortunately no park runs in the part of the world where I am right now. Miss England so much!!!

For now... it is me and sometimes my son(s) who I drag along :)

Have you joined the ParkRun community? Nothing better for motivation than that! You could sign up to race at your own pace too? It is very hot. I keep retreating to the gym as it’s too hot outside 😂

No such community around!! But a few running clubs, though not close by.

Meanwhile we are finally enjoying cool 30-35 C cool weather after a scorching 45+ degrees heat in summer... :)

Just keep running and following your plan... be determined and just do it and you will get there :)

You have a fab goal. Now take the journey one step at a time and don’t let guilt from your six months break creep in. You’ve got something to focus on now. I know what it’s like to run in isolation. No parks or clubs here and I don’t drive, so it’s only the scenery and my enjoyment of running that motivates me. It must be even harder for you away from anyone you know(?). But youre running again, so things will get better and better. Cant offer advice about half marathon training as yet to aspire to that, though soon ... well done for getting back into it x

Thanks for your words of encouragement....

Hello, just wanted to say good to have you posting again and I'm sure that alone means you are back on it and that your motivation to carry on to your half marathon will remain! Must be spectacularly tough in India. Whereabouts are you? Perhaps a trip to the Himalayan regions would help 😀🏔 (for the weather if not the terrain!)
