We woke to a clap of thunder, flashes of lightening and pouring rain. Then it eased and as I sipped my tea I wondered if there would be a window to run in.
Then I got a text from my lovely friend ‘Nice day for a country walk’ I sent her a rude message back and then she asked if I could run in wellies. At this point I realised the hoped for window had arrived, it had actually stopped raining. Willow gave me a funny look as I leaped out of bed and pulled on leggings (yesterdays shorts are in the wash) along with other clothes. I really didn’t need my running jacket. I grabbed a cap to keep the rain off my glasses if it came back and I was off.
Brisk walk as I set up the various things I run with. Coldplay belting out in my ears, NRC Breaking Barriers, it’s 31 minutes, Garmin set to time not pace, I’m off 😀 trotting down the road.
It’s warm so wriggle out of my jacket and tie it round my waist.
Up over the bridge, and down the other side, there was a rather miserable looking woman at the bus stop peering up the road. I guess she was looking for a bus, I grinned and called a cheery good morning but obviously that didn’t lighten her mood as she completely ignored me.
The first 15 minutes of easy running are up and I’m a hundred yards from the beach, I must of course see the sea. Over the road, across the stones and oh, the beauty! the joy! the color andthe crashing waves.
NRC pauses if I stop so I took a few photos. Turned and ran home.
A youngish lady in a disabled buggy with no cover passes me, we both call hello and we ponder if we’ll get home before it rains, she’s faster than me so she might make it, and on we go, I’m not even going to try and keep up with her.
And then something magical happens, a few cool spots on my warm arms and shoulders, then down comes the rain. I run on celebrating the fact that the cap is keeping my glasses dry and 31 minutes are over. Brisk walk and home.
That was fabulous.
I’m reading Your pace or mine, and it’s as much about the people she meets on the way as the running and I thought this morning of the chat with the young woman who can’t run but was still out enjoying herself
Run happy or rest well
