Ace!

Can’t decide whether to go for one of these instead of my quite old Apple Watch or get a new Apple Watch for Christmas.

I’ve got the new Apple Watch. Phoning, texting and music without carrying my phone 👌🏽

Sadly I can’t get a decent EE signal where I am much of the time and O2 don’t support the virtual sim 😔

in reply to Jay66UK

Booo can’t justify after only recently getting my 35...😔

Is there much difference between 35 & 235 Rip?

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Lorijay

I think the 35 has less extras and an older model. I didn’t want anything over complicated.

I was more of a cheapskate and was looking at the 30 , then work bought it for me for retirement pressy 😁... love it.

This was a large factor in me going for one. I hope you haven’t led me astray!

Itsmillie profile image
Itsmillie in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Does the 35 tell you your pace and use GPS to map your route etc? I can't really see if the 235 or 35 is better!

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Itsmillie

Yes it tells you pace, distance, HR, intervals and uploads your run to Garmin connect. Mine also uploads to Strava. I still carry my phone but just for music. Not sure if the 235 has music too...🤔

Did you have to Jay...

🤤😜

Haha. That's where I was Amazon deals ... I've already bought some wireless headphones today, then I was checking out the garmin 235 ... came here to see if anyone else was in a dilemma too! Have been on ebay for the last two or three weeks looking at secondhand 235's, but these aren't much more just now. I'm very tempted. After all, ju-ju- was so right about the magic 10k plan, maybe I should just follow her lead again .... :) I think that might have just tipped the scales :D :D :D

I saw a similar deal a while ago, perhaps not quite such a good price. But I ummmed and arrrrred so much they had then sold out. This time I was on it, thanks to you Jay 👍🏼

I’ve just checked on Music Magpie and I can get £110 for my old Apple Watch. So the Garmin will have cost me £45 😳

in reply to Jay66UK

Win!

Oooo...you’re getting me tempted now too, Jay! I don’t need one - I’ve got a Fitbit and a phone...but it would be nice to leave the phone behind...but I’d still want it for my music...😣😣😣

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to mountaindreamer

Hmm. I have a fitbit. and a phone. ... and i will still take the phone for music. bt my fitbit doesn't have gps. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! And hopefully I can sell the fitbit reducing the garmin price even more :D

mrrunGraduate10 in reply to linda9389

Alternatively, download a free app with gps on your phone. My iPhone mapped every run for the past two years, graphics and all. I paid nothing.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to mrrun

That's what I've been doing! Mapmyrun and strava. Mostly successfully .... But I use an armband for my phone and think it will be so much more convenient having it on my wrist where I can more easily see it and access the buttons. I hope so anyway!

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate10 in reply to linda9389

I do the armband too. All l want to know is how long and fast l ran. That thing tells me. Heart rate? If you faint it’s too high, if you walk and talk it’s normal. Calories? Check your belt. Stiff? Run more. Loose? Good job. Hydration? You honestly think it can tell you that?

Anything else, more detailed and scientific? Turn pro and let your trainer/coach/sponsors sweat over it.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to mrrun

Oooh 😀 maybe I should just return it 😀

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate10 in reply to mrrun

Hmmm...maybe for the rest of you guys. My pulserate comes entirely from pacemakers, and doesn’t always do what it should with exercise. I’m keeping my Fitbit on, thanks. They do a pretty good job of matching a hospital ECG exercise test. I’ve no comparison to know how well a Garmin HR monitor does, but heartrate is the most important data I need when running. (So I’d possibly end up with a Garmin on one wrist and Fitbit on the other if I bought a Garmin!)

I do like the idea of just starting my run app by using something on my wrist, though. I switched from my phone in an armband to a waist belt, as I find that easier to access to start and stop the app while running.

I’ve been waiting for the price to drop again after following it on camel camel for a few weeks. This is now the lowest the 35 and 235 have been since mid March (for one day by the looks of it). I had some vouchers from work I’ve been hoarding so have finally treated myself- I’m like a kid at Christmas. Really must get into a decent pair of shoes now though.

Ace! It’s like Christmas. Presents for all!

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate10

I’m still eying these up...anyone have any details on main differences between the 235 and 35? I’d be more tempted to get the 35, based on price, unless it’s lacking something major that I’m missing?

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to mountaindreamer

Colour screen and poss the tech in the heart rate monitor. Google “Garmin 235 vs 35” (no quotes though) and comparisons should abound.

Yay! Thanks jay! I’ve been looking at gettzing one of these for months and now I can finally treat myself!
