20 degrees, part uphill part trail, and I’ve actually speeded up, AND my VO2 Max has gone up another notch to the top 10% for my age. I know I’m bragging and I know I’m still pathetically slow compared to most of you, but I’m chuffed to bits.
I’m right pleased with this: 20 degrees, part... - Bridge to 10K
I’m right pleased with this
Well done! We have similar pace, so don’t knock it! 🤣
Fantastic Flick! You must be really chuffed to see your fitness levels improving. Top 10% for your age is not to be sniffed at! xxx
Thank you dearest Sadie 😊 By this time next year, I might be up,to your slow pace 😂 bit I AM pleased with the progress and I feel very energised by the run despite the fact it was already getting hot. I don’t know if my wasted left leg will ever give me the push to go reasonably fast. One problem is having to wear a support for my knee, and that restricts the muscles in the wasted bit above my knee (typical with a femur fracture) from building up. Xxx
Sadie-runs when I say your slow pace I mean when you’re running slowly. You’re pretty fast xx
I knew what you meant my lovely! Your progress is good and you should be proud. I might be speedy (-ish), but you sure as hell have me beat on endurance. 😁👏 xxx
Because I run slowly I guess. I’m presumably putting less strain on my body. I’m certainly burning fewer calories. But you have the choice to go more slowly whereas I’m running as fast as I can if I want to keep going for more than a few yards xxx
Well done Flick ... and in this heat! You're brilliant!
Thank you, that means a lot to me 😊
That’s fantastic, and if you’re getting faster in this heat you’ll be racing along when it cools down. And the VO2 max is super impressive. I’ve just dropped two points and am back in top 25% so top 10% is a distant dream.
Thank you. The VO2 Max seems to go up and down like a yo-yo.
Mine too. Still not sure how accurate it is but good that increasing overall I assume.
It’s just a guideline really: it should be measured in lab conditions running on a treadmill to exhaustion point, with an oxygen mask on, apparently. But it’s a useful guideline.
You’re right to brag! Running is HARD! Congratulations Flick - you’re doing so well!
Thank you. Coming from you that’s a huge compliment. You are so capable and determined and FAST. Btw it’s really funny how comments are coming in on the forum again now the match is finished 😊
Hi FlickM3, Well done you! I'm in the slow lane too. I do look admiringly at the whizzes and have to remind myself that speed isn't every thing. I have no idea what VO2 Max might be!? But it sounds seriously impressive and top 10% for your age! Well done you! Enjoy the chuffed to bits feeling! Sounds wonderful! 😊
Aw thanks. I’m sure we will speed up in time 🙂
Oh Flick, I love this, fab news. Your endurance, stamina is all combining together wonderfully. I long to be able to run 10k, but all in time. Your wasted knee or not, you're doing great and look super fantastically great too. Good for you my lovely xx 👏👍😊
Bless you, you are so lovely. thank you xx
Wooohooo! Well done! That’s my pace on a good day, so I would be feeling really pleased too! 😄
Thank you. I have run faster, but not over any distance. I find my overall pace is gradually improving. I think sticking at it and running 3-5 days a week helps. I used to wake up and think, urgh I’ve got to run today, now I wake up and wonder if I could run consecutive days, which I have done once with no ill effects. 😊🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
SO what is VO2 Max ???
It’s a measure of fitness. Really it should be measured on a treadmill wearing an oxygen mask and with you pushed to the point of collapse. I think it involves heart rate and breathing. The one on trackers and watches is an approximation but useful for measuring progress.
Here’s a better explanation:
VO2 max is the measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense, or maximal exercise. It is measured as milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram of body weight (ml/kg/min). It is one factor that may help determine an athlete's capacity to perform sustained exercise.
Ok - thanks. I promised myself a watch on graduating, but it hasn't happened yet. I'm still trying to make sense of the info runmeter churns out. I'm certainly mot ready for oxygen masks! and I hate running machines!
Lol don’t worry Garmin tracks vo2 max through any type of running. I only use a treadmill in the depths of winter when it’s too dangerous outside
Congrats Flick! We both have the same pace I’m sure and it’s simply brilliant, because whether it’s slow or fast we still get out there and rock it 😀😀🏃♀️🏃♀️
Hope your well?❤️
We do! We do!!! Just a short run today (1km) because I'm knackered. x
