I wasn’t going to run this morning. It was raining when I got up to make tea and quite windy as well. The gremlin 😈 won and I went back to bed!
Later on, I realised it had stopped raining. I checked the forecast and yes, it was windy, but it’s set to be more windy tomorrow. Game on! A 30 minute run is just what I need.
It wasn’t cold, so I left my jacket behind, but still wore my running tights. I could have worn my shorts. I tightened up my sun visor - didn’t want to lose it in the wind.
Music today. I thought I’d sing along to Gloria Estefan. I have a new Spanish follower on Strava and we communicate mainly in Spanish as his English is terrible. Time to brush up on my Spanish skills! Warm up walk over and off I go “La tierra donde naciste....” 🎵 🎶 so busy singing, I didn’t realise I’d set off too fast! Slowed down a bit and all was going well. Gloria in top form 🎶. Third kilometre I hit the headwind on the exposed part of my route. Tried singing louder but just got out of breath! Well, I knew it was going to be windy. I battle on through the start of the fourth kilometre then decide on an about turn so the wind is behind me for the last few hundred kilometres. Run over. My 4K time isn’t too bad, I run on for the 30 minutes as it will count towards a Strava challenge.
Can’t say I enjoyed that run, but it definitely blew the cobwebs away. My hair was wrecked 😂
My watch loved it, though. My fitness age is now 23! 😂

Well done Jools2020 you'll be a teenager soon at this rate 😝
Ha ha! Love the fitness age Jools! Well done on your run, despite the gremlins visiting earlier in the day!😈 Some good music can real help on a run can't it? I listened to Imagine Dragons (one of my favourite bands for running to) and Jessie J!
I couldn't wait to get out after work today (this is not always the way at the moment!😳) and really enjoyed a breezy 6.5k whilst the rain held off! 🙂
I’m such a moody runner! Sometimes I want music and love it. Sometimes I need the reassurance of Coach Bennett. Recently I tried nothing at all, and i sometimes I like that, too. Or not. So many decisions have to be made at the start of a run. Fortunately, I make them quickly 😄
But I don’t generally like breezy runs, although I like the feeling when I get home, once I’ve sorted my hair out! 😀
I remember that one, but prefer her singing in Spanish 😊
I do vary my runs, so maybe that’s part of it. My fitness age was 27 after my 10 mile run on Saturday. The 4K one today had a faster pace, but it wasn’t super fast. I was surprised at 23, that’s never happened before! Score was 38 Superior for both. Top 5% for my age and gender, the same, too.
Yes, same here! I was supposed to go out today but it's just too windy, so I'm staying in. I've got work to keep me busy. Since I gave up my full time job I only do sessional hours and it's really flexible so I can arrange my schedule to fit around my runs 😃
Sounds ideal. Plans for running change often this time of year. Too windy, too icy...... too cold hasn’t stopped me yet. Your arrangement sounds like you can just swap things around to suit.
Yes, I'm really lucky to have such a flexible set up! I'm with you on that one, I don't mind running in the cold (although it takes me longer to settle into the run), it's strong winds and ice that I can't deal with.
Wow fitness age of 23, well worth the messy hair!! You are doing fantastic, well done for getting out there in windy conditions and multi tasking and practicing your Spanish x
That's one hell of a puddle! 😂 Well done on getting out there and completing your run 💪🏻 I've decided to just go now no matter what the weather, once your wet your wet ! 😂
