Setting targets

I have had the same target for 5 months and achieved it on Saturday (so chuffed). So I hope to repeat the effort a few times in the coming weeks but then what?

I would like to set a lower target but I expect there are suggestions to be had of how much would be realistic to go for :-)

I graduated from C25K last year and the target has been to do 5K in 35 minutes, which I have now done, once!

Suggestions welcome

Well done that’s great you got there.... my advice is to think about what you want from your running? A goal can be as simple as running 3 times a week or as complicated as competing in an Iron Man... have a think what you want and we can help you with getting there 😎

Ok ... do you do intervals as part of your weekly runs? Are you a member of a gym?

Yes I do intervals. Also try to increase my distance. I am asking what I should set my new target to, 34 minutes or could I be more ambitious? Would like something to aim for by the winter maybe

I suppose it's a question of how long you want to spend on it. You could say 34 mins and achieve it in a month or 30 mins and take, say, 3 months. How often do you want the high of hitting target 😂

A combination of faster running ie intervals, fartleks and hill repeats combined with gym work hitting all the important muscle groups and some run coaching ie club or YouTube even will get you there.

Oh well done!! I’m still a solid 4K in 30 minutes andvsuspect I’mmgoing to be there for a while. What did you do to increase your speed, or did it just come with time?

I do intervals, currently using the guardian podcasts but I have also used 30-20-10. I also have a local hill that I run up and down sometimes. I find them quite absorbing and they have improved my time in a very pleasing way :-)

Thankyou, I will try those. I have started to run up ( gentle) hills and I’m going to try the farkets method, which seems to be personalised variable interval training, which I like the sound of:-)
