Hi everyone,

Welcome to Week 2 of the June Quest... How are we 'shapin' up' and meeting our goals for the month?....

Whether you are going on holiday and hoping to do some tourist running, or just trying to fit your running in when the temperature is reasonable, it's really important to keep hydrated, wear sunscreen, hats and sunglasses....Yes, more faff...😎 but we can do it and get out there and run this month.

I do hope you will join me to chat and share your goals and challenges.

What the Quest is;

The Quest takes one calendar month . You can join any point within that time.

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.

Wishing you a happy healthy month x

Week 1 done and 3 runs of 5k achieved . The week started for me with a personal best at parkrun.... good start I knocked 10 seconds off my time 😂 if I carry on like this I’ll be doing 5k in 30 mins in another 54 runs ha ha . Seriously though regardless of time i am finding the 5k doable and this month is a good opportunity to continue improving my strength and stamina .

Thank you for putting up this quest it has given me a fresh goal to my running. Just focusing on 5k and not time pace or anything else means I’m really enjoying playing with new routes and the natural world around the.

Well done laurel, three lovely 5ks tucked into your belt...including a pb for your Parkrun too!

Good luck keeping those runs going, and enjoying it, its what its all about!

Happy Questing!😊x

Very happy with my first week of this Quest. Three nice runs Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. Another one this morning means I'm on schedule😊...

Just picking a distance or route that I feel like doing, and enjoying it.. (there are still zombies playing in the background!)

Saw a baby rabbit on the verge this morning and he didn't move, as I silently swooshed past him in a blur 😆...lovely🐇 (he was brown)

Happy Questing everyone 😊xxx

Hi Jan, Thanks for this quest.

Done 3x5k this week, trying to post a PB.Not this week.🙈😂

Monday run in the band 40-45 mins, but a Strava DNR.

Wednesday 47 mins.

Friday 49 mins with hills.

Going to do a 10K🤔Sunday and miss out the speed challenge wk 2.

Revisit it for week 3&4.🌟👏👏

Take care of you.🌟👏👏

This running malarkey gives plenty enjoyment and plenty learning also.🤔😂

I am a highlander,🤔😂 not brave heart though,I was supposed to be made for hills, something has gone wrong with the spec.🤔

Maybe a good mantra will sort things out.🤔

Favourite at present, push that body, punish that body.🤔😂

pity there is no music.🤔😂👍

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Tbae

Ha, don't let Oldfloss hear you with that mantra!

Pushing and punishing indeed.. 😆

The slow and steady may not be the best for hills though, I concede😉x

Hi Jan,

Yes that’s JuJu’s original mantra LOL.👍😂

Now I think it’s, I am brave,I am strong and I am a panther.🤔Something like that.

Well no contest or choice for me really.🙈

Just another pussy cat male.

Always knew who were the superior humans, whats all this equality stuff.🤔🙈😂😂

Set up for a flat 10K,and see how I go on to 15k.Which I have built upto.

Just been out for my mountain Welsh water and my Ella’s kitchen purée that I will position at my 2 stations of my 2.2k Circuit.Lol.

Need to get better organised for going over 2.5 hours.👍👏👏

Take care if you.🌟👏👏

Hi Tbae, great work on the three 5k's, all really good training, and hills are tough!

Good luck running that 10k on Sunday , it will help you improve your pace for your 5k runs. Hope the weather is kind on Sunday.😊

Happy Questing!😊x

Thanks Jan,

Aim to be running by 0700 latest, 2hours from my porridge and preparation.

So all going well finish 0930.

It is a good shift and as Laura would say a good Workout.

Laura and the C25k programme is advertised frequently now on the athletic programmes. Today again.👍🌟👏👏

Take care of you.💫🏃‍♀️💫

Hi Jan, I did a Fartleks run yesterday.... hard work after all the walking on holiday, my legs didn’t want any of it! 🙄

Went for a sports massage yesterday afternoon and boy were my quads and calfs in knots, she had me really cussing her 😂

Doing my local Parkrun on Saturday, it’s a special one all over the country this week, marking the 70th Anniversary of the NHS.... should be fun 😊

Doing my long run on Monday and trying to fit strength/stamina work in between runs.

Have a good week 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♀️

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10

Hi Ted, those Fartleks are tough...even without all that holiday walking in your legs! Fast running puffs me out😧....they are good training though...

Hope the sports massage helps you with a great Parkrun event on Saturday, I didn't know about the anniversary...

Good luck with your long run on Monday too...hope its not too hot!🌞

Happy Questing 😊xx

First week was a success - got my 3 runs in - a 10.6k slow run Friday, a 3 mile with stride intervals at the end resulting in a 6k run Monday, and a speed interval workout today, working out to 8.3k using Razouski 's great Shrek-inspired playlist that I put on Spotify. I had initially hoped to do the speed workout yesterday but spent the day on my son's field trip at a camp all day and was completely wiped out when I got home! But given the games we were playing and the canoeing we did, I'd call it a great cross-training kind of day👍🏻. I have a 7 mile run planned for Sunday - it's supposed to be very hot with thunderstorm risk so will try to get out early.

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

Ok, just realized today is Friday, so actually only ran twice last week with today's run being the start of a new week. But I'm happy anyways. I was on call all last weekend which means no running, and the runs I've done were quality runs, so Yay! If all works out as planned, next week could be 4 runs (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday), but we shall see what the work week brings....

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

So pleased to hear this Allie, love your quality runs!...all great distances. You still had some energy for the activities at your son's camp field trip too and had some quality time with him too!

Running is great for relieving some of the stress of your job, I feel, so I'm glad you are able to fit those runs in now...

Look forward to hearing how your 7 miler and next weeks runs go!

Keep on Questing😊xxx

Yes, i’m quickly learning that running is helping to keep me grounded and if I don’t run, it quickly escalates to a pretty toxic place. So will be working hard to keep running even in my busiest times!

Well have maintained my pattern of running on alternate days and highlight if the week was actually keeping up with an audiofuel 180 pyramid interval training thing which I downloaded ages ago and have always been too scared to try. It was really challenging but I really enjoyed it for that. Other two runs have been more sedate 4ks - especially today's which followed a late night and too much food and wine and ended up involving too much long grass. Still I did it. Am hoping to do a longer run on Sunday after some clean living tomorrow.

Happy weekend running 😊

I really like Audiofuel's Pyramid 180 session. It's short and if not sweet, good for making me feel sweeter afterwards if I am in a bit of a grumpy mood.

DebJogsOn profile image
DebJogsOn in reply to GoogleMe

I've loved using the C25K + speed podcast upto now and finally thought I'd give the audiofuel intervals a go. I love using them if I have to run after a long day at work - you're not out for long, feel you've achieved something and have usually pounded out the work stresses by the time you're done. 😊

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10

Ha, well done Deb, you and me both with the food and wine😉... enjoyed it at the time, but feel it when I run😄..

Great work last week, have a good run on Sunday and I will try to do some clean living too..😊x

Happy Questing....

Aah! Lovely pic, would love to be able to plan 3 runs a week, but am reliant on better weather, so am not going to put pressure on myself. Still with 7k done today, 8km seems doable by the end of June and have one second term of Pilates, sure it is helping.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to lexi6

Hi Lexi, saw you ran your 7k, when the rain eased off😊 Wintertime for you in New Zealand so quite challenging to get out...

There are no time limits or pressures, just enjoy your journey following Ju ju's plan and you will definately have that 8k run by the end of the month.

Well done on a great 7k run.😊x

Lorijay profile image

Have kept up with 3x runs this week. All 5K, no great increase in speed, still hovering around 38 -39 mins but happy with that as I try to consolidate. Have my Race for Life 5K next Sunday which will be R2 of Ju-ju's plan so on target with goals for the month. Happy running to all. :) :)

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Lorijay

Good work Lorijay...pace will come, and that's a pretty nice time for 5k in my book😊...

Good luck starting ju ju's 10 is the Magic number next week...

Only one run but it was a toughie - Week 2 run as intervals. You can - just - see the demarcation between staggering and a 'light jog' :D I did go to the gym a couple of times though and I am booked in for an introduction to leg work :O

I'm away next week and won't be taking my kit with me which is almost unheard of for me - and a shame as I haven't been to this place before, so no running tourism :( but I'm only there for 3 days and the heat and smog will be intense. My HM plan is supposed to start on the 11th but it starts with 20 min runs, so I reckon I can catch up :)

Happy Questing to everyone!

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

Hi Annie, well done on your intervals run...they are tough on the legs..and the breathing!..Well😥....

(I took my running kit to Cornwall, but didn't use it once😔...no excuse really except doing lots of walks with hubby and relaxing...Pinkaardvark went down the week after and more than made up for me though😉)

Have a good trip, rest up ready for your HM training to start😎...

Good luck at the gym with that leg work!😊xx

AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Thank you - now I'm off to France directly after Shanghai so will have another case in the boot of my car with running kit in. It won't be as exciting, but it will be some running tourism, at least :D

I didn’t manage 3 5K runs this week but I went to Parkrun this morning and ran exactly the same time, to the second, as I did last week, 28:34.

Doing fairly OK

30DaysWild is going pretty well

Daily yoga is demonstrating that if I don't do it first thing I don't do it

Only one swim because the second got derailed (and in all honesty I needed the recovery time from other stuff) so I plan to get more swims in next week which should be possible. Or make them longer than my minimum. Or both

No especially fabulous run yet although a regular wood run was enhanced by all the new growth and flowering rhododendrons.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Ticking over nicely GoogleMe, fitting in what you can...

Looking out for your fabulous run!

A plus is that we have put up a bird feeder in our garden (inspired by you) watching it, but no takers yet...may have to move it.

Keep up the Questing😊xx

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10 in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Fabulous run may happen next weekend... got an idea.

So pleased to hear about the bird feeder. It can take a wee while and yes, sometimes it is the location. Also the food... I've more or less settled on sunflower hearts, and some finch mix. Oddly what they are going for in this heat though is the fat blocks with insects when I had to throw them away over the winter. The real food guarantee is live mealworms though.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Thank you *Notes taken😀xx

Thank you for setting up this quest! I ran outside for the first time in daylight and really enjoyed it. My aim is to run 8km by the end of the month using Ju-Ju’s plan. So last week I ran 6.6km for my long run. This week will be 7km. I’m not very tech savvy so I have to guess how far I’m going and how long I need to run for and then see what has happened after ... but as long as i add in a bit more from last week, it should be okay. Slow and steady!

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10

Great work RunninginSingapore...Well done for running in daylight too😉, so pleased it went well and you enjoyed it.

Lots of folk use Strava or Mapmyrun or Runkeeper, which are free apps on a smartphone...to tell them their distances. I recently bought a second hand garmin watch on ebay which has gps tracking. You only need to be saavy if you want to upload the run results to a pc or your phone...

You are doing just fine though by judging it yourself, there is no need for any technical equipment..Just you and your legs!😊xx

Happy Questing and enjoying running in daylight👍....

Runninginsingapore profile image
Runninginsingapore in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Thank You! I downloaded Strava to track my total distance and then used my Fitbit for the running bit today. The combination seemed to work!

Count me in!

Well, I've only just graduated so now it's time to reflect and decide what's next. I am, of course, consolidating first and this will give me time to consider options. My quests for the rest of the month are:-

1. Keep up the 3 weekly runs. Would be too easy to slip when you're not in the programme any more.

2. Definitely want to add in strengthening to help with an old knee injury playing up.

3. Undertake my first Parkrun. I've registered already as I had rather hoped to graduate at the local Parkrun but alas it wasn't to be. No childcare.

These are my goals and motivation - fail to plan, plan to fail!

Good luck to you all with your quests!

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to

Hi Sutsha, those goals sound perfect! I love your motto too😊...

Hope you get to do your local Parkrun soon, easy does it first time😆..

You are on the Quest...Good luck😊x

JennyH10 profile image
JennyH10

Similar to Sutsha, I graduated a couple of weeks ago and have managed 3 x either 30mins or 5k (my 5k is around 40 minutes) runs both weeks which was my main goal👍.

I joined my friend’s running club for one of my weekly runs so that’s a 5k every Thursday evening.

I was going to join Parkrun but I came across a local “circuits in the park” group which I could take my son along to (he’s 10, needs to get more active but hates running). I went last week after running my own 5k and it was so hard so I won’t be running on a Saturday for a long time.

So my next goal or quest is, apart from Thursday night running club and Saturday afternoon circuits, I intend to do two more runs, one being one of the c25k+Podcasts and the other one 5k at my own pace which I will eventually increase the distance in I think 😊.

I’d quite like to get back into some weight/strength training and swimming too but I’ll run out of rest days!
