Morning all,
just a few musings and thoughts, feel free to ignore , I just love this forum for letting me express a few thoughts about running.
Managed my third 10k in four weeks this morning. It was a slow horrible tough thing but I think it’s that way for a reason. I remember when I first started running 5k as a regular multiple weekly thing , ( not that I’m doing triple 10ks a week) but there were good ones , bad ones and just plain ugly ones and I was wondering if that is what is happening now? I started off and it very quickly became apparent it weren’t going to be pretty , nearly 8 mins at the first k, legs weak , but I took a deep breath , tried to relax and just decided ,feck it, what’s important today is the mileage not the time and just hung in there for the 10k. My splits were what many would consider slow but they were all very consistent, within 15 seconds of each other each per k and I’ll take that.
I’m aiming to be running one 10k and 2 , 5ks a week, except last week-there was a blip🤦🏻♂️,can’t do much more as I want to try and keep rest days and work is a pain ( not revealing too much but we only do 12 hr days, I live an hour drive from work ,so there’s little desire for pre or post work runs if im completely honest) I still find 10k’s a bit daunting if I’m honest, not so much physically but in my head- as in I really have to mentally get my head up for it , I’ll start thinking of which day I’m gonna do one , get it in my head the day and night before. Wake up that morning , confirming it in my head etc.. , don’t have to do this for 5ks . Just the 10’s. I also have worked out where in my run the mental hurdle is- for me its the 6 and 7k marker. I don’t know why but I know if I get to 8k, I will 100% finish it and it gets easier , 5 comes round like it normally does in a 5k but 6 & 7 are my personal demons, dont know why - they just are 🤷🏻♂️🤪
Oh and HELLO BANANAS!!...WOW!..well I’m happily to admit I’ve never been the sharpest blade in the draw , but I never really made the link that there probably is a reason sporty people eat them!🤦🏻♂️...I’ve seen Wimbledon and various sporty things on telly and everyone is munching bananas and I’ve often thought ohh full of potassium I reckon that’s why , they must be good , well I’ve never thought that I’m sporty or whatever and this morning I got home and my wife had been shopping , she buys all different fruits for the kids diet and today there was a bunch of bananas laying there so thinking more minion than runner I thought ooh I’ll have one , and REVELATION ALERT HERE PEOPLE!!! THEY TASTE AMAZING POST EXERCISE!!! AND I FELT A LOT BETTER REALLY SOON🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
other than the whole world , who knew that?!?
Keep running guys, I’m gonna go for a little walk and a few stretches before my calf’s demand it...might even take a banana with me 🤔
Take care
