A couple of people mentioned ‘jeffing’. Nothing came up when I put in a search.

This came up at some point last week again. Jeff Galloway (US running guru) has made a small fortune with his Walk/Run method for completing HMs and Marathons. Basic idea is that if you try and run the whole thing you'll get knackered, but if you intersperse walking breaks between running segments your legs recover and you maintain your stamina. It's the tortoise/hare principle really. But seems to work. Lots of people have had better total times "jeffing" than with trying to run the whole way. He's written a fair few books about it, all of which are a bit repetitive, but the principle seems pretty sound.

Nothing I need to worry about for a while tho.

Not sure that "Keep on jeffing" has quite the same Spencer Davis Group ring to it as "Keep on Running" :-)

I never seem to get that concept. You either run or you walk. I ran the whole HM distance but l can tell that at the moment l can't run the whole marathon. Hence l won't do it unless l can. Stamina or not, getting knackered or not. But then, don't listen to me, do your own thing! ;)

sallenson has described it well above.

All I’ll add is that my wife used it to run the London Marathon last month. She took up running last autumn when she got a place in the ballot and then was hit by illness and weather in her training. So she switched to Jeffing a few months before and experimented with different walk run intervals.

She finished and was going at pretty much the same pace throughout, still able to run with less than 1km to go. Plus no major aches and pains in the following days.

So I reckon it can be pretty effective.

Of course, l agree and l will never deny that method, we all have our ways, each good or bad. But for me it's simply running all the way, or no way.

Running all the way for me too, but I was pretty impressed with how it worked for her.

It’s horses for courses....some see it as cheating but to be fair, there’s nothing in the rule book that states you have to run all the way, it’s a case of getting from A to B in the quickest possible time without any aids!

Some people for various reasons, aren’t as fit as others so if ‘jeffing’ helps them achieve their goal who are we to spoil their moment? 😊

Off my soap box 🤗
