When I signed up for this run through virtualrunneruk, my plan was to run it with my son as an incentive to get him off his video games. In return, he would get the medal. However after a really long, cold winter where I struggled to get out running followed by a VERY busy month filled with sports for him, where he had 2 soccer games and 2 basketball tournaments this week (including 5 basketball games yesterday π³), I told him, if and when he runs a 5k with me, the medal is his. I had initially planned for an 8 k run today before Bluebirdrunner reminded me of this run on Friday by posting her Star Wars themed virtual run. Since I'm just loosely following a plan right now in preparation for a race in the fall and in all reality am just trying to get out running a couple times a week during my really busy exhausting time, I figured I should go for it today, let it all out on the table, and see if I can run a sub -30 minute 5k. I decided to use a different playlist on Spotify since all my playlists are designed for distance not speed. I found a 180 bpm playlist where I at least recognized a few songs and some of the artists. I knew this was too fast of a beat, but I'm pretty good at not getting trapped by running to a beat and just wanted some up-tempo songs to push my speed. I didn't know many of the songs that played, but it was tolerable and definitely pushed my pace. I had hoped to have a bit left in the tank at the end for a sprint finish, but alas, I didn't. But I did it!!!! According to Garmin, I ran 5k in 29:01; according to Runkeeper, I did it in 29:41. Given I was running in my neighbourhood with lots of buildings, the Garmin is supposed to be more accurate so I'll take that result π. When I run on the open park pathways down by the creek, the phone and watch match up pretty well. Regardless, both have me running a sub 30 min 5 k and I feel great. Hubby even commented that I didn't look that tired π. The icing on the cake....it was my first run in shorts and vest.....yay!!!!!
How are all the other Star Wars themed virtual runners getting on this weekend?

I did the May the Force Star Wars VR yesterday & this death star one tomorrow, with my son!
No sub 30s for me I'm afraid - just back off the IC this week after 4 weeks out with the back injury, so I'm taking it really slow. It was good to run a comfortable 5k again.
Thanks Bestcat. Glad to hear youβre able to do your runs after being on the IC. It sure is nice to run a comfortable 5k again. Iβve just been starting back after work has knocked me on my backside recently and it feels great!
Thanks Jan. I'm really pleased with it. Nice to know I can push it and not be completely wiped for the day. Now to figure out when to run the 8k, likely Friday. I'll do a shorter run again on Wednesday so I can still catch part of my son's soccer game. It feels so good to think about and plan some runs again. Yay!
Superb stuff, well done you, what a great time! Even greater in the fact that you've hardly been able to get out for a while either. Gives me hope that I might be able to get back out there eventually without having to start all over again.
I saw this run and was going to do it myself, but then forgot! Just as well as still on the IC. It's a lovely bit of bling and I'm sure your son will love to call it his own, one day soon
Sorry to hear your still on the IC. I have complete faith once you're able to run again that you'll do fine. I did a couple 20 minute runs just to get a feel again, and have been doing anything from 4-6.5 k runs when I get out. I know I can't run the distances I was running but that's ok. There is no time to run that long for now and am enjoying the shorter runs again.
It's funny isn't it, when you can't run, you appreciate being able to do anything at all. I managed a measly 10 mins on the treadmill at the gym today, but without any hurty side effects and I'm so chuffed! Here's to any run is good enough
Wowzers SaskAlliecat ...thatβs fantastic...you are flying!! Youβll have to try the Mummycav playlist...thatβs a good one to run to! Well done chick, brilliant result...Iβm proud of ya xx
