Conversation with my eldest son before leaving for this mornings run:
Son: "So, how far are you going today?"
Me: "Well, I was going to do a 7, but I'm not really feeling it - maybe I'll just do a 5? ...but then I plan to go easy, so maybe longer..?
Son: "OK - so you're going on a run ... of indeterminate length?"
Me: "Yes.."
Son: "Enjoy!"
So, a very undecided beginning to my run today. I pushed it a little on shorter weekday runs and the legs were feeling it a little yesterday, not helped by a day of decorating during which I always find myself squashed in to odd and often uncomfortable positions!
The first couple of kilometres were, as ever, the hardest. However, slowly but surely the sheer beauty of the bridleways and footpaths where I ran today lifted my spirits and my "indeterminate" run rolled on to become a very rewarding and comfortable 10k. There are so many paths and routes to choose on this run that I was able to mix it up and choose my route as I ran, picking a shady trail here and a sunny farm track there...feeling good, so up the hill to the field of sheep - sensibly seeking their own shelter from the sun. Back down the old railway line to the recreation ground and finally home with a big smile on my face. This was a lovely run on a beautiful morning and has set me up for the rest of the day! We are so lucky to have this thing called 'running' in our lives and it constantly amazes me how good it makes me feel when you get one of the special runs, especially on a day when you don't expect it! Happy running, everyone.π
