1960s Playlist and Mr R Kept Me Going 🎶

It was too wet to run yesterday, so I resigned myself to a workout at the gym and a swim. But having compiled my 1960s playlist I was absolutely itching to get out and run. It’s amazing how much motivation having a new playlist can give you. To make things even better Mr Razouski had said that he would accompany me on his push bike.

There were so many great tunes, and as I set off I was thankful for the suggestions of many other runners in the forums.

The first km was pretty easy, apart from one killer hill, but a statue of Eric Morecombe greeted me at the top and I was compelled to do that funny Bring Me Sunshine dance they used to do at the end of the Morecambe and Wise Show. At this point hubby thought I’d gone completely bonkers. The next km greeted me with vibrant patches of the most beautifully delicate violets, and these were then interspersed in the hedgerows with primroses, white violets and daffodils. And then out popped a little rabbit from the side of the railway, which stopped and looked at me (much in the same way as Mr R) as if to ask what I was doing. It was small enough to be able to fit in my hand. When I pointed these out to my other half it was clear that he didn’t quite share my enthusiasm for the flora and fauna, so I decided it would be ok to continue my run listening to my playlist. He didn’t mind.

I had planned a long run, but when I got to 5km my legs started arguing with me. It was an out and back route and they were convinced it was time to turn back. Pretty soon my lungs joined in with the complaining, Are we nearly there yet? they winged anticipating the problems of more hills in front of me. But I managed to keep going, as I didn’t want to miss out on too many of the tracks on my playlist. Before long The Crystals came on, and I was once again distracted by the lyrics, which transmogrified in my head

🚴‍♂️

Went out on a Tuesday with my hubby, brill.

I do run run run

I do run run.

Told me to keep going, “You can do this, Gill,

You do run run run

You do run run”

🏃🏽‍♀️

“You can run up hill,

You have running skill.

And you will not walk home

You do run run run

You do run run”

👁️

Going past a big pond something caught my eye.

I do run run run

I do run run.

A group of swans landed after flying high.

I do run run run

I do run run.

🦆

Legs, you can run by

.

Lungs do not deny

You have got good air supply.

I do run run run

I do run run.

🏃🏽‍♀️

Picked up pace at 7k I’m doing fine,

I do run run run

I do run run

Turned around at 8k, still more hills to climb

I do run run run

I do run run.

Then there was sunshine

Helped me up the incline.

And when he walked me home

I had run run run

I had run run.

☀️

In fact I had run, run, run just over 15.5km.

Haha love this! It's in my head now and I'll probably be singing it in my sleep 🤗

"Transmogrify" is one of my favourite words along with "serendipity" 🙂 I have it written down in a diary somewhere from when I first discovered it.

Oh, and well done on the run, that's fab 🙂

I don’t know why I decided to use ‘transmogrify’ but it is a great word and I don’t often get to use it. 😉

Great way of distracting yourself - and Eric and Ernie's dance. Well done.

I often distract myself by rehashing lyrics. Trouble is I have to then ignore the next bit of my playlist while I’m working out the new words. And then I have to try and remember them when I get home. 😂

Brilliant rehash & fantastic run!

The only song buzzing round my head at the mo is "Twist & Shout!"

Cant wait to get out & run with my 60's playlist.

Brilliant, I’m going to look at the suggestions on your last post and. Make my own playlist. I’ve got Now that’s what I call running .. I don’t even understand the lyrics! No disrespect to you young things but I think I need something less modern lol ..fantastic run story love it

Thanks Jullaly , I did try Now That's What I Call Running, but the songs were all too modern for my tastes. Most of my playlists feature the 1980s rather heavily so I thought a 1960s one would make a nice change.

Would it be cool if there was a 60's VR with bling shaped like a 45 rpm vinyl 😊
