5K ‘Not Feeling It’ plod

I just wasn’t feeling it today. Plans to do a long run went out of the window. So I thought I’d just go out for a run and see what happens.

I started off slowly and thought that maybe I’d do a Zone 3 run, but that didn’t work out, either! It really was one of those runs! I decided just to accept it and that the next run would be better. I focussed on what was around me. I looked up and watched the Red Kites and listened to their calls. I greeted other runners and nosed in people’s gardens. I thought about my visit to the steam fair yesterday with my daughter-in-law and grandchildren. I thought about the conversation where Sam (aged 5) explained to me why he is so different from other children because he has a green heart and a purple brain!

I decided I would stop at 5K and started the final km. After the initial uphill part, I wondered whether to pull out the stops. Well, why not! I took the brakes off and started to increase pace. I glanced at my watch and briefly saw 5:45. Whaaat? It’s been a long time since I saw 5 anything. That certainly lifted my spirits as I passed my Dad’s house and ended the run shortly afterwards!

Home for stretches and coffee - knowing that the next run will be better! 😊🏃‍♀️👍☕️

Splits:

8:46, 9:03, 8:55, 8:44, 6:38

That sounds like a pretty cool 'not quite feeling it' run, especially ending on a high 💪. Not sure about watching the red kites though: mind you don't fall flat on your face! 😱😅

Thanks! I am careful, it’s more like lots of quick glances 😊

Sounds like a decent run Jools, that last split is brilliant. There must be something in the air today as I've just had the same sort of run, gave up before the end which is out of character. Hey ho, have a good weekend 😉

I don’t know what the problem was this morning, but we still got out there and it’s done now. Here’s to a better run next time for both of us 😊

Nice one Jools !No pressure runs are the best !

Unfortunately my hip had other ideas this morning 😐

I’m sorry about your hip, Ian. You obviously need to rest it - hopefully won’t be for too long! 🤞🤞🤞

I'm trying not to stress about it , I'll run when ready 🙂👍

Thanks Diane, I seem to be moving from one problem to another at the moment 😐But trying not to stress about it , just came back from a walk to keep it moving !

Well done! For a "not feeling it" plod that was blooming good.

Thanks. Once I’d got over the disappointment of not doing a long run, perhaps you’re right! 👍

Green heart and purple brain? Wowzers!!

That's really not so ploddy - and that last km.... Wowzers!!! 😁

Yes, he is a child with imagination ! I was certainly fired up during that last km, it was as if I suddenly woke up and realised I was running 👍

Oh well done, that still sounds like a lovely run, especially your grandson at the steam fair! He sounds like quite the character 😊. My 2nd to last run I didn’t feel at all, but we find the energy from somewhere! Enjoy that coffee. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️👏🏼👏🏼👍

I love talking to him to see where his imagination goes, it’s fascinating!

I always enjoy my post run coffee! 😊

Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. At the end of the day, the run allowed for some lovely thoughts (your grandson 😍) and great company 🦅along the way 😃 and wow that's a very impressive last split 💪👏👏👏

Thanks, Beatles. I’m glad I persevered with the run as it was worth it for that last Km! 😊 You’re so right about going with the flow.

5km✅ must be good. 😊 You have had a break with your tooth trouble, so to drop down in distance and build up again seems a good plan, even if it may not have been your plan.Whether it is correct or not, who knows, but my average bmp was 152 😞. Oh well such it is. 7km and 210 elevation gain for me today. 😊🏃🏻‍♀️🌸

Yes, it did seem a struggle but my average heart rate was 136, which doesn’t seem too bad! Well done for your 7K 👍👏👏👍

Jules, you did way better than me….. I spent the morning at work periodically muttering “i’m not having lunch, I’m going fit a run after work” until there was left over sausage, hash browns and beans, came home at 4 knowing I wasn’t running as too full, so well done for getting out there, running to the end and thinking the next one will get better, and nosying in gardens and seeeing red kites sounds lovely way to pass a run. Happy rest of the weekend

Thank you, Sola! Can’t blame you for eating when you were probably hungry! You’re right, I did keep going and reduced expectation. It wasn’t so bad! 👏👏👏👍

Wasn’t so bad is really good for some, I’m off monday and tuesday so if we don’t get out tomorrow we can run both those days

Despite not feeling it, those are nice splits. You might not think so maybe, but those look like my pace 😁. Nice pic by the way!

Thanks! I feel better about that run looking back on it, if you get what I mean! 🙁

Sounds like the sort of run that feels better at the end han whilst it's happening. I love those little insights into a 5 yearolds' mind! They are those treasured little moments that we never forget.

Yes, it definitely was. Sam certainly has a great imagination, it’s fascinating talking to him 🥰

That sounds like a fab run - who cares about the time!? Well done for getting out there.

Thanks 😀, it was more the length of the run, it was going to be an 8K but it was not to be!

Looks like you completely turned around the ‘not feeling it’ by the end. Very satisfying! And super speedy on that final split too. I do like the way you thought yourself through the initial phases, accepting the run for what it was, but letting it still be a run; in a way, this itself might have enabled that transition to the feel-good phase.

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to GailXrunning

Thanks, Gail. You’re right. It was a weird run, there were no gremlins as such, just my mood! Acceptance of that caused a shift by the end and I ended up feeling much better.

I think I’d get on with Sam 😊. Well done for going with the flow and getting a run done.

A run is a run…maybe there was a reason you only…only😂…ran 5k. Your body (or brain) may have been subconsciously telling you today was not the day for an 8k!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Think back to last year and consider your thoughts about *only* running a 5k…😉🥰

You’re right, of course! I’ve dropped a run this week. It’s been raining here and just didn’t feel like it. Feeling better now, so need to get back to it with a Jeffing run!

Missing my running partner Jools. I do hope that you are alright and will soon be up to your Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday routine. I have kept the routine going although couldn't manage to get up early enough on Tuesday so that run became an after dinner one instead. (8.52pm start)
