What is your weather like and what is the forecast? Here in London we have a shed load more snow forecast Thursday and Friday, we are white over now and then temperatures rising from Saturday onwards. I’m using the the old fashioned method of fingers crossed for preparation.

I have fought so hard to be ready and here for this HM I will be so upset if it is called off but I can’t do it in ice or snow either so safety wise I would prefer non of the above.

Just as thought has anyone had a HM cancelled due to weather? What happens? Do you get your money back or entry next year or what.

My half marathon in December was postponed, not cancelled, due to snow. It was eventually rescheduled for February 18th! We had the option to go with February, defer until the following December, or get money back minus an admin fee. I'm sure you'll still go to the ball :)

Would have thought a HM in the snow would be lovely. It does make me giggle hearing Londoners talk about the snowpocalypse :)

I am a North Yorkshire girl at heart, normally I am fine but I have a habit of going flying and breaking bones In the ice! 😀.

I am supposed to be flying on Friday from London so my fingers are also crossed for it passing without laying and causing disruption. Hopefully It will work 😆

Hi RFC, looks like ours (Cambridge) is go, the organisers are keeping an eye on the weather, it’s set to be a bit warmer and rainy (afternoon please!) , but, Friday is forecast heavy snow - it might completely miss us, (fingers crossed, and apologies to those who might cop it) but they’re working with the councils etc. Their policy says postpone rather than cancel. I bet they’ll do they’re utmost to keep it on due to the logistics etc.

OOh postpone? Depending on when that would be postponed to maybe I could play too!

I’m in this position with my 10k event on Sunday. I don’t think I am fit enough to run it , but could potentially run/ walk. If it is postponed I should be fit to run. But for now, I’m thinking, do I just do it and aim to finish only, even if it’s mainly walking 😳❄️

Good luck with your 10km I hope it gets to go ahead. I am just going for a finish so totally understand about wanting a bit more time,

I hope your event goes ahead. The Big Half has said as things stand it is looking good. I am hoping our weather might even be nice by Sunday morning. I think like yours they will do their best.

I have a ten miler but keeping everything crossed. It’s a trail one, which might make it more likely 🤔. Fingers crossed peeps 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Good luck with your 10miler, I think a trail would be easier than a road run, hehe I say that coming from the fact I have never run a trail run, it is just that I would imagine less ice, I don’t know why!

Ha ha ha! My son, who’s an emergency gas man, has just been in and told us, they’ve had to dig up the gas main on a key part of the route near the start/finish for emergency repairs, might not be done by Sunday......and means the proposed road closures won’t work/will cause chaos......there we were thinking we were going to get scuppered by the weather! 😂

I think they’ll do their best to sort it though, or we might have some holes to jump......best place to look for any missing runners though.....😂🏃‍♀️

Have been watching the forecast for Sunday. It is on main roads so hopefully the traffic and Saturdays temperature rise will clear things. Hope there's not a lot of hanging around at the start.

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate10 in reply to ancientrunner

That is what I think. The main roads in central London are always clear. I am lucky as I am getting a bus from home so they are more likely to be running and the temperature is still looking good for the day. I’ve never tried a bin bag but I am tempted. Got a phone call from kidney research. I have raised £80 for them at an event I did and they are going to be stood at mile 7-8 so I feel sorry for them being static.

ancientrunner profile image
ancientrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Realfoodieclub

That will be a great boost - and a sure sign you are well over half way. I haven't tried a bin bag but have often got an old top from the charity shop that can just dump at the start. Not the weather for scouring the shops tho'. Good luck

I'm a bit unsure about Sunday's run. They are still saying that they will go ahead with it but they will make the final decision on Saturday morning. There's already some unhappiness on the FB page because people are coming from far away and are having to decide whether to cancel hotels etc. and if they leave it until Saturday they won't get a refund. Personally, I won't run if the Trail is snowy - and at the moment it is 4" deep in snow - because I don't have any trail shoes and I'm not buying them at this point, plus I'm not risking any damage before my op because I don't think they'd take me in!

Unfortunately, the cancellation policy is a bit rubbish. They just say that if they have to cancel because of e.g. weather, there are no refunds. I can't cancel or defer at this late point so I will just lose my entry fee :( But better that than potential damage and weeks (even more weeks!) on the IC. We'll see - perhaps all the snow will clear and it will all be fine :)

Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you, Rfc, and ancientrunner and Madge50 !

Thank you. With surgery coming up I would be cautious. Last year I even stopped hugging people hello as I didn’t want to catch lurgies 😀. You couldn’t run In New shoes, I have a pair of trail running shoes but I wear them for hiking. Fingers crossed the weather forecast is correct and we get the warmer weather by Saturday morning, clearing the snow away with a bit of rain and a warmer night so no frost. Perfect. 😀.

Mine's not for another 2 weeks Annie, I have a friend doing the same race as Rfc. Weather should be warmer then but the thought of getting up before dawn to get two buses, run all that way and then likely be sick at the end is wearing me down. Also feels like about 5 week taper is going on. Would agree don't go in the snow, hopefully it will clear for you and if not hey postpone rather than delay.

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to ancientrunner

If it's not right for you, AR, for whatever reason, then don't worry about it. However, there is no harm at all in just going for a little pootle. You are not attempting to set any records, you are just going for a run. You have done the training, you are able to complete it, and it wounds as though it's as much the logistics around it as the run itself that are causing the collywobbles. Is there anyone who can help with a lift? Two buses seems like hard work, I agree. And what causes the sickness afterwards? Too much effort? Not enough fueling/water? Getting too hot/cold? Stopping too suddenly? Whatever causes it, that sounds miserable.

ancientrunner profile image
ancientrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

Thanks Annie. I think you are right and I ought to just go along and pootle round. The enforced weather break was probably a good thing. Finally got out again yesterday and did 10 miles, so will be 6 weeks since did anything further. I've never got to the bottom of the nausea - it's only happened at big events and I don't really change what I do re fluid etc so I don't know. Something in my head probably. When I signed up I decided if it happens again this would be the last one!!! xx

Thanks Annie, yep, mine is still go, the FB page for mine is very entertaining - one of the reasons I am not on FB......., ( and sorry, I don’t mean to be rude to those who are complaining, but the weather elsewhere e.g Cambridge is fine....is not the organisers fault and the T’s and C’s where there when people signed up) given the logistics and commitment with these things they’ll do their utmost to keep it on. I feel for the organisers, damned if they do, damned if they don’t....

Not sure I’d fancy a trail with deep snow, but I hope it turns out ok for you, whatever happens 🤞

I got the email yesterday. I agree, closing London roads must be a nightmare and not a job to be just ousted to another day easily. Change of plan pre event, I will be the one walking around in a size 24 beige coat that drowns me. My Mum had a bigger phase and I have one of her old coats knocking around so I’m going to wear it and ditch it at the start. 😀.

Yes 😂, I’ve got an old big fleece jacket, gloves that would do a goalie proud, and a big woolly hat! That’s going to be fun, a mass strip off at the start and items of clothing flying everywhere (I nearly got a jumper in the face when I was watching a couple of years ago😂) can’t wait to see those photos! 😂

You’ve got to laugh really, relax, and those that can...enjoy!

Thanks, Madge, I agree about the poor organisers, they cannot win. They have cancelled ours as you may have seen elsewhere. Today of course it is raining heavily so I'm sure the Trail is clear now and I bet people will be whingeing about it somewhere!

Fortunately, most of the bad weather seems to have now passed from here. I am running in Eastbourne, along the seafront, so it will likely be cold and breezy, and at the moment rain is forcast. Not my ideal conditions, but after building up to this for so long I'd hate to postpone.
