I’m trying to build up distance and or pace for half marathon!!! Any tips or suggestions from people with this type of run? Also any advice on taking on a little fuel? Will it help?

Thanks in advance, hope you’re all having a fab running day! 🏃‍♀️💪🏻😁

Sorry I can't give you any advice or help but just wanted to say wow what a great pace, time and length of run! Something I can only aspire to! I've done 10.5k and felt tired at the end, like I could have done with something to boost me up a bit, if I was going to carry on. I've read that people take jelly babies, I assume because they are small and easy to eat and pure sugar. I quite fancy that - who knew sweeties and running went together?! :)

Thanks for your kind words.

You will get there! I had a couple of dips along the way but just pushed on & before you know it, things are easier again.

Good luck with your running & remember we’re doing more than all those still on the couch!!!

Happy running 💪🏻😘😀

Great run Lisa😊..

Lannodatruffe has written a guide to increasing distance which includes fuel intake, pace etc. which you may find of interest. Here is the link.

Join the Marathon Running and Racing forum if you haven’t yet done so. I got some invaluable advice on there when I was preparing for my first HM and you’ll see a few familiar faces too.

Great time and pace, I have just done 12k today as well and agree with what you say about pushing on through the tough parts.

If I'm running more than 10k, I find I need to take some form of fuel. Tailwind endurance fuel was recommended to be on the marathon forum and I really like it. It is a powder you add to water and can adjust the amount you use based on what you're doing. It isn't sickening sweet like so many of the endurance drinks are. I've taken Mars bites (also mentioned on the marathon forum) which works well in the cool weather I'm running in now but I reserve them for right after my run because I tend to get quite whoozy and feel like I need something to ensure a safe drive home (I struggle with low blood sugars). I also ensure I've had had a decent bite to eat a couple hours prior to heading out, focussing on easily digestible protein sources like egg or toast and peanut butter.

I was fine running 8 miles (13k) or so without fuelling but I did find I was flagging a little at the end. Now I am running 10-12 miles I have introduced a fuel strategy. Prior to going out I eat a weetabix and small banana with some water. At about 6.5 miles I have a caffeine free isogel which doesn't require water. This is enough for 10 miles. If I do 12 miles I have a 2nd isogel at 9 miles. Essentially I fuel at 1hr then every 30 mins after. I suffer with ibs but this works for me without any stomach issue. Looking at your run stats a half marathon is your next step!
