Local 5mile run done.

I needed to do an event for my hm training so I could re-experience my faffage prior to the event. I chose a local flat 5 mile (8km) run in the grounds of a grand house. I organised myself the night before and wrote faffage lists. All went surprisingly well! It was a 2.5 loops with a long section down a farm road. The run itself was fine although a little disconcerting when a tractor with trailer came rumbling down the farm track dividing and slowing the runners, I guess they didn't get the email about the 1000+ runners! I had a panic that my legs were not as happy as I would have liked over 5 miles which made me somewhat concerned for my 13.1 miles. Then the result came in as 46.36 minutes with an average 9.20 min/mile (5.48min/km). No wonder my legs were a little tired and hopefully a slower pace will get me through the hm. Anyway, medal and t shirt were awarded before tea and cake were consumed. A good run out!

wow - that's a brilliant time. No wonder your legs ached - you will be fine.

Thank you AR! I was very happy with my time, almost another 5k pb, just seconds off. Now enjoying a glass of wine 😁

Well done. When's the HM? (I've not been keeping up! - found it, lol). Is that the t-shirt or the table cloth under the medal? (fab time, btw)

Great run and time...you were on for a sub 60 10K

You’ll do the HM in Apr, loads of time left to train 🏃🏃😊

in reply toTedG

A sub 60 10k would be a new pb, my last was 61 mins! That may be achievable now.

Wow that's fast! Well done - you will have that HM in the bag :)

For the hm i will need to control my pace from the outset, something I need to learn!!

You did brilliantly, all that training has paid off Runner !

For me distance training seems to bring pbs at 5k up to 10k which is a great side effect! As long as I can pull off the hm i will be a very happy runner. I have no ambitions beyond that 🤣

Fantastic stuff and what a pace, too! Glad the faffage lists worked out well. You’re so going to smash that HM! 👍

in reply toGabby08

Oh yes to faffage lists, they keep me marginally sane lol. I wish I had the confidence regarding the hm, I do find the distance to 10 miles hard going. I think that is knocking my confidence 😣

You’ll get there - you’ve got plenty of time yet. For me, I found that slowing right down on my long runs helped.

in reply toGabby08

Thank you, I will try to slow down when I go out on Thursday. I have a 13.5 mile route now so the plan is to do my 10 miles and keep plodding the rest as long as I can. Hopefully i will get there or I will have a bit of a walk home lol.

Ha! I’ve definitely had to walk the last mile on more than one occasion, telling myself it was just an ‘extended warm down’...

I like your thinking!

the tractor driver must have got a surprise :)

in reply toGetfitok

I fancied hopping onto his trailer for a lift! Kept the run interesting!!

At that pace, you were going quicker than any tractor I’ve ever seen!

Well done! All those miles I've seen clocked up on Strava are working a treat. Keep up the good work.

in reply toLangley-Loper

Lots of miles, in fact 67 miles in January! I think my most before was 47 miles in October. Hoping my legs are reaping some rewards for all this work!
