Well, something a bit different for me this week, leaving the roads for a trail run through Gosforth Park in aid of the Children's Cancer Trust.
Despite living only a couple of miles from the venue I hadn't previously heard of it but apparently today was the 37th running with 9000 runners and twice that many spectators attending.
There were runs for all ages from 1k up to 5 miles staggered across a 3 hour period and the route took us through the woods of Gosforth Park and Nature Reserve with the last km down the finishing straight of Newcastle racecourse with people cheering us on from the other side of the rails as if we were so many tired nags.
For once I wasn't bothered about my time, just as well as I had to dodge tree roots and wandering children, pick up a couple of kids who seemed no more than toddlers and stop for a couple of chats.
Overall trail runs won't be for me but it was a superb event for a wonderful charity.
Actually a week off next week!!! before what should be a spectacular one, the Bamburgh 10k at the start of June.
Run happy, run safe.
PS, Does my route look like an angry reindeer as Jan suggested on Strava? ππ

Well done to you Chris on running that 8K trail run, you enjoyed your run today and that is the main thing, as you say trail running is a bit different from running on the roads, you can now look forward to the Bamburgh 10k in June,
The graphics kind of looks like an angry reindeer ππ
Itβs funny how we were completely oblivious to running things before running ourselves. That one sounds like a fun run with all ages taking part. Well done chris
I love trail running but I know theyβre not for everyone. It is hard to run fast on them and tripping is a given. What a great cause though and sounds like a fun low-key no pressure kind of event.
You would love one of these organised events, yes the majority are a good standard (sub 55 for 10k) but there are all sorts and standards there, everyone is friendly and you get to see lovely places, I'm going to end up doing about 12 this year.
Wow 9000 runners - that's a big event! I love the greenery of trail runs but the trip hazards are definitely scary. Well done for remaining upright π
I was there too with family son 10 daughter 17 wife and I did 5k in respectable 35 and 37 mins all for a great cause. This is our 4th and itβs a great local event. Course is muddy slippery tree rooty to test your stability and this distracts you nicely plus drumming bands brass bands and a furlong finish! Took home medals Greggs goodies and a sense of satisfaction- look out for the childrenβs cancer bike ride 30 June Newcastle quayside
