I’ve managed to run 5k in 38 mins but did 30 mins on cross trainer and managed to do 7k, is it normal to have a discrepancy with cross trainer? Also should I be doing the same length of time as running on cross trainer or more ?
Confused 🤷♀️ : I’ve managed to run 5k in 3... - Bridge to 10K

I am finding at the gym that these kind of comparisons are not of much value - for example the work we do on an elliptical is associated with how many RPM we do and the work that we do on a treadmill is associated with how fast the treadmill is turning over. Likewise the rowing machine uses strokes per minute and strength of the pull to give us data about that form of exercise. I tend to use my heart rate monitor on these machines and use time spent on the machine to give me some idea about how my workout is (apart from "feel") . So I will spend a certain time on individual machines at a common heart rate number - say 80% of my max. I also find that I can't really get my HR up as high as when I run outside without exceeding my "inside" perceived exertion.

As Bazza1234 says, you can't really compare these. I have no clue what distance I cover on the machines in the gym. I go with time, effort levels, how I feel, the HR monitor (not that accurate but it gives me an idea) and sweat! I leave the distance marking for my runs.

I have no idea but that all sounds like great training 😎

I cover double the distance ( at least) on my cross trainer, than I do outside...!
