Hi all, just back from my local Parkrun, eating my 2nd breakfast (usual treat after a run!) and decided it's time I crossed over to the other side so this is my first post on B210k.

I'm slowly working towards my personal challenge of running 10k by February 2018. I still haven't achieved 5k in 30mins, I seem to be hovering around the 35 min mark but I am now gradually increasing my distance. I'm not following any particular program just adding another half k every 2 or 3 weeks. Currently up to 6.5k which I'll consolidate before increasing the distance again.

Although I haven't posted in a while I still read all your posts on both forums every day which really helps to keep me motivated ... thanks!

Now to wait for my Parkrun results email.

Happy running everyone!

Thanks ... have just read my Parkrun result, still around the 35 min mark so again no improvement. Never mind, onwards and upwards!

Happy running!

Did you run the whole time though??

Yes, I'm scared that if I start walking I'll not get going again! So far I've always managed to plod on to the end of all my runs.

Welcome to big school.

It is most common to increase only one run per week and do that by no more than 10% of your weekly total.

10k is a lovely distance, requiring no special preparation but long enough to cover some real ground.

Thanks. I try to do Parkrun, one longer run and one run of about 3 - 4k every week so I'm not pushing my 60 year old legs too hard ... I want them to keep running for a few more years!

Thanks for your advice ... happy running!

That sounds like a great regime.

You will probably find that longer runs are much kinder to your legs. They should be run at an easy pace, unlike parkrun, where the tendency is to chase that 5k PB each week.

Hi Wizziewood, your plan sounds good...I'm doing the plan Ju Ju devised on here it's in the pinned posts on this site. C5k-up-to-10k which is similar to yours. Like lannoda truffle says the longer the run, the easier the running, it's crazy but true😆

Good luck and keep posting your progress. xx
