2.5 years of running, never fallen over. 80 Parkruns completed, never fallen over. Beautiful still sunny morning here on the south coast, and with a solid training block for the great south run under me, decided to push for a parkrun PB. I normally start close to the back as a slower runner, but I pushed my luck starting further forward than usual. We have 300+ runners so the first few hundred metres is pretty congested. Less than 200m in caught my toe in a slightly recessed paving stone, got nudged as I hesitated and did a full face plant, only my statuesque embonpoint stopped my chin actually hitting the ground. Bruised ribs, bruised knees, various grazes, but fortunately nothing that won't heal fairly quickly. With the wind knocked out of me I really didn't feel like carrying on. I have to say the volunteers were excellent in making sure I was ok and getting me to sit until I had recovered a bit. PB will have to wait for another day.

Pride comes before a fall
Ouch! Glad you are (mostly) ok! Rest up for a couple of days - plenty of other runs to get PBS on!🙂
🤕 hope you recover soon, sounds painful.
It is so difficult to catch yourself once you trip up during a run. You've done well not to fall yet. But now it's happened it's not so bad, right? And people were there on hand to make sure you were okay. I bet a note was made about that trip point too. Our parkrun announcements often contain mentions of newly exposed roots etc, but more importantly YOU will avoid that paving stone next time. It's all part of mastering that route and working towards your new pb. Hope the bruises go down quickly. Bruised ribs sound particularly ouch 😣 I look forward to hearing about a great pb in the not too distant future
Ouch Hope you've recovered now? It can really shake you up, so look after yourself over the next few days as well.
Yes - I went down on my face during the start of a parlkrun. Tripped up on a child in front of me who hesitated. 2nd fall was caused by a very small piece of bark on a concrete path. Just skin and ego wounds for those two. Third fall in Wells, UK resulted in fractured bone in my foot . If you MUST fall and break something, do NOT break a bone in your foot!!!!!!
My first Parkrun was my baptism of "how to stop myself falling". I have Parkinson's . I got to the top of the last big hill at Sherwood Pines and looked over my shoulder to see where my wife was. Next thing I know was I was face down in the gravel , with blood coming from elbows knees and head.
They set up catchers at the finish for me . It took 6 months of hard discipline for me to be able to run and not trip up. I still avoid kids and dogs !

Gosh that sounds awful... I hope you heal up soon and take care. You will be out again soon 😎
Ouch! That was really unlucky. I hope you heal quickly- especially the ribs, they must be sore. Look forward to hearing about a new PB in the not to distant future. Take care.
Ouch 😩 Hope you feel less bruised soon.
Haven't seen you around for ages Coddfish. Good to see you back again 🙂
Ouch!😧 I had to watch out for kids in the way at a congested Parkrun yesterday, so kept me on my toes! Then a greyhound on a lead with his master was stop starting around the course, he just did not want to go! I thought, I know how he feels! Just wants his basket! 😁 but somewhat hard to understand how a sleek running machine like a greyhound has a distinct lack of energy, ah well! I suppose we all have off days! Heal up quickly for a pb another day!😊
Thank you everyone for your thoughts. It sounds like falling is a rite of passage for most people. Perhaps I have been lucky not to have fallen before; I have certainly stumbled and recovered a few times and was once shoulder barged by a lurking yob. My local parkrun is dead flat on a fairly well maintained tarmac promenade decorated with a geometric pattern of concrete paving stones. The paving stones are a bit more forgiving to run on, so I usually use them. I must have run there 200+ times without previous incident as the trips I have survived have always been on tracks.
I am feeling your pain .... Hope you feel better soon...
Sometimes the bruised ego can hurt a bit too, when you take a tumble in front of others!
Ah no, not you too! I hope the cuts and grazes aren't too deep and heal fast. The only other time I fell running was on a muddy cross country race, like you cushioned by my embonpoint - I was only temporarily winded so finished the race but because of the way I'd fallen, looked like I was wearing a mud bikini...
