Pride comes before a fall

Well I did the Miles for Mind challenge in May - running 50 miles (80k) over the course of the month, though I had to run quite a lot in the last week to make the distance! It was a great challenge and a very worthy cause which is close to my heart and important for my family. So I took a break in early June - lovely holiday in Crete with my daughter and then back all refreshed to take up the running again. Received my lovely medal for the Miles for Mind challenge and felt very proud.

Ran a rather scrappy 3K on Saturday and then fractured my foot on Monday! Pride comes before a fall. I now wear the big boot and am hobbling about feeling like a complete idiot. Hoping that it really won't be 6-8 weeks before I can get back to normal. Fracture clinic next Monday will no doubt provide some enlightenment. Really hoping they won't decide to put me in plaster, which is apparently one possibility.

Feeling quite low and housebound, but trying to see the positives. I didn't break my ankle. Hope you are all enjoying the running and staying safe! πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ

Oh you poor thing.

I had a stress fracture in my foot some years back and they couldn't do anything, just prescribed gentle walking while it healed itself (6 weeks).

Let's hope your prognosis is better 😊

Thanks for your best wishes! The doctor at A&E did say it might be 6-8 weeks, so I am resigned to a long stay on the IC. I'll have to go back to C25K when I start running again. Might be fun! Happy running. πŸ‘πŸ˜€

It will be fun, with the added bonus that you already know you can do it!

Poor you JoP61, I do hope all goes well for you at the fracture clinic on Monday, and that it is not too long before you are off the IC and running again. πŸ€•

Looking on the bright side, at least you got your holiday in before this happened.

Thanks Dexy5 - much appreciated. You're right about the holiday. Would have been ruined if I'd had to wear the big boot on the beach! Have fun with your running. I like reading your posts. πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Oh wow our stories are too similar to be true!!! I am gutted for you and the first week is the hardest. IIt’s all the emotion and getting your head round it that takes a little time. But you will cone back... running will wait for you.... you can do this.... I ran 50 miles in April. Really so chuffed with myself then fell over when out running early May. Just taken my boot off and starting my slow recovery plan. my top tips for managing how to not run, stay sane and smiley....I stayed on here lots and cheered everyone on as that helped keep me in my runners mind mode. I have bought new running stuff too although the shop person did look at me a bit strange trying on leggings and tops together with a boot and crutches. I swear that I see every runner that’s out. Far more than I did before. Hugely envious but smiled at every one thinking that will be me.... it will take time. My new motto is to come back stronger to run longer. Just starting ankle strengthening and getting it going again .... take it one day at a time... stay smiling knowing you will run again no matter how long it takes.... Rest well and wishing you lots of healing vibes ...

Hey Wimborne

Thank you so much for the empathy and encouragement! I am a little more resigned to my situation but it's not easy. Haven't been out at all since the accident, so am going to venture out today for a very short shuffle to the local shops.

I laughed at the idea of trying on running stuff whilst encumbered by the big boot, etc. That shows optimism. I'm going to try to follow your advice and stay positive.

Thanks again, and very best of luck with the recovery plan and future running! β€πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ‘

Good luck with venturing out. It takes a bit of practice but I could get quite a speed up after a few weeks πŸ˜€. I used a rucksack too which makes it easier to carry things and used it round the house too. Just to say I had to wash my boot too after a while.... take care and keep posting 😊

I managed OK though it was rather slow and laboured progress! Received sympathetic comments from random passers-by, which was lovely. And cars waited at junctions for me to cross, etc. People can be very kind. Thank you so much for the advice - it really helps. I will report progress! Good luck with your comeback. πŸ˜€πŸ€ž
