Hi friends happy December. My running machine after 15 years has finally given up the ghost. It nearly blinded me when the belt snagged yesterday and I was vaulted at the console. I have the shiner to prove it. 15 years old now and needs an update. So I am looking at Peloton Tread and Nordic Track commercial 2950. So I am looking for suggestions regarding alternatives when even i who loves autumnal weather would rather run indoors. Budget around 3-4k something that will last forever.....Loving all your posts...They are all equally inspirational...

Running machines
Ouch! Glad you are ok. I'm no expert on treadmills, have a Reebok folding one. It has a number of programmes & does the job. You might want to look at the ones for commercial use as you are using it a lot? Also (and it depends on your preferences), if you can bear to hang on, you might get a deal on January when the euphoria of new years resolutions have worn off and people are selling theirs.
CBDB did you recently do some research into buying a treadmill? Apologies if it wasn’t you!
Exciting taichi1 !
I did , MissUnderstanding , but I was looking into some unusual ones. (Manual curved, manual straight and dedicated low speed/walking ones)
We haven’t quite decided yet, but I came to the conclusion that I don’t need one of the electric main stream ones, as my speed is so slow and hubby is likely to not run on it. So the slower ones tend to be cheaper and would do me just fine.
The ones we were really fascinated with, and tried out at a gym are the curved treadmills (assault runner, techno gym skill mill, trueform or woodway). They seem to be excellent for one’s running and walking form, last a lifetime, don’t need electricity bar the monitor, but are also extremely heavy and don’t fold. And expensive. We were humming and hawing about some 2nd hand ones we looked at, but found they would really clog up our living room too much. But if ever we get a gym shed…..
So we’re pondering about it and looking at our options. We are evening looking at new electric TMs dedicated to walkers/slow-runners, as they are foldable, sturdier for heavier walkers, and still cater for my running speed (as I’m such an ultra slow runner). They tend to be also cheaper, as the motor doesn’t need to be as high performance due to low speed. But they cater for those of us not light-bodied runners.
But from what I hear in my treadmill groups on Zwift, the most reliable makes and most popular ones are nordictrac, noble pro and sole fitness. Noble pro and Sole seem to be perceived as very reliable. nordictrac as well, but slightly less so. Sole also make sturdier ones and I did look at the F63 and F83 as second hand TMs.
But no decision made but it feels we’re also getting closer to one.
Have fun shopping for a new one! We did actually look out for a gym that had the type we wanted to try out, and got in on a one-off gym trial to test them. It was great fun.
Ok great that has definitely given me loads of ideas...especially looking at Noble pro and Sole. In fact I'm gonna make a cup of tea and look at them now ...I will post if i get close to a purchase or indeed complete a purchase...many thanks CBDB I really appreciate that post...very helpful!!
Mine was a JTX Slimline... excellent.
My only advice is to avoid anything which has "smart" or "cloud" facilities.
The companies behind them can shut up shop suddenly or decide they no longer wish to support old products, whether or not you're paying for a subscription.
