I recently signed up for the Bournemouth Marathon Festival 10k, I achieved 9k in 1hr 6m a couple of weeks ago so I feel confident to have a go. Forums have helped me through pregnancy, motherhood and running a 5k so I'm posting to introduce myself ๐๐ป
A year ago today I did the race for life 5k having followed c25k, it was such an achievement for a fitnessphobe like me. Problem was my diet was awful beforehand and getting into running meant I thought I had an excuse eat more junk. Fast forward to October I got blue lighted to A&E and told I would not be eating any more fat until my diseased gallbladder could be removed. ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
I deserved that.
I am now minus a gallbladder and 3 stone down with a gym habit of 3 times per week. I don't recognise the person in the mirror nor the lifestyle choices she makes but I love it! We got a puppy last year and I occasionally take him running (rottie x shepherd, big boy!) at stupid o clock in the morning so have been trying bigger distances to tire him out before I go to work.
Looking forward to sharing and hearing of others successes ๐ฅ๐

You will easily complete your 10K - running in a "race" is much easier than running alone - the vibes, Adrenalin, company etc makes it so. Sounds to me you are on the right lifestyle "track" now!!! I have been "off the track" for the past 6 weeks and am getting right grumpy about it!! It is really weird what running does to and for you!!
Good for you ๐ i hope you're feeling tickety-boo now
Nothing like a race to focus the mind. Eek! ๐ฎ
Having a dog forces us to get out in all weathers and at all times, which should keep you on the move constantly, which helps you keep the weight down. Chance to check out new running routes too ๐
Couldn't agree more, I discovered a little-known bridleway near my house recently which turns into a beautiful little 4K with views across the purbeck hills and Poole Harbour (I'm in Dorset). It's now the standard walkies whether running or walking with the kids..
I've lived here all my life and before running and dog ownership I had no idea how lucky I was. I plan to take pictures and gloat as much as possible lol
Well done with on your success ๐ and good luck with the run!
If I may? If (and I don't know if he is or not, obviously) your dog isn't getting as 'tired' as you expect him to get after exercise, it might be that he is one of those dogs that actually ends up more excited after a run. Dogs are like people (I.e. All different) some people just want to rest after a run; some feel really energised.
His breed is recommended to have 2 hours exercise per day by the kennel club so the longer runs idea s based on that. That said it baffles me that we get back from a 5k and he's full of it getting his toys out and rolling around excited as I expect him to be pooped. You make a good point, I guess he's just expressing his happiness from a good run (well run for me, more canter for him lol)
Maybe some 'brain games' as well? My daughter's Beagle tends to come back energised, but will settle after a few rounds of fetch, or if I give her a beef knuckle that's almost as big as her head. ๐
