Omg race pack has arrived....

Whilst surfing the sofa my race pack arrived for the 10k. Omg I got a really bad case of butterflies! This is my first event and I have been unwell with aches, temp, head cold for the last 4 days so I am 50/50 whether I will participate or not. I have actually had an appetite this evening and wolfed dinner down which has to be a good sign. Currently consuming a rehydration beverage and pondering on this. Oh what to do?

Don't let those gremlins in.

You'll be ready and it is really surprising how once you are at the event you really do get swept along by the whole thing.

Eating is a good sign- go for it!

I was planning a 5k jogette tomorrow but may have to rethink that. I still have 3 days....

I've only done a handful of 'real' (non-virtual) races. What I've found is that the training from the previous 3-4 weeks is actually more indicative of how the race will go rather than the last week. I know 10k doesn't warrant 'tapering' the same as a longer race but the last few races are likely more mentally beneficial rather than physical.

Obviously this is with good health.

Having the cold must seem a nightmare :( If it becomes productive and is in your lungs then withdrawal may be necessary but I reckon if you feel on the mend and gear yourself up mentally you'll be fine. Maybe tweak your predicted time for yourself so you don't come away from the event feeling disappointed.

The good thing about your first event at the distance is that it is guaranteed to be an official pb :)

Thank you for your wise words. I have an occasional cough but not productive at all more the dry irritating type. Hopefully as I feel better my mental position will improve. I really hope so as despite the nerves I would like to do it!

It is undoubtedly blooming annoying that your first event has been hampered but I reckon you'll really kick yourself if you don't get on the start line.

The potential chesty cough bit has to be watched though.

I hope the next few days see you feeling better x

You've still got a few days to judge but I'd say if your appetite is back then you are well on the way to recovery. As you say, try a little jogette tomorrow and that'll give you a good indication whether you're fit for Sunday.

And don't forget that the bling is a great incentive 🙂

Very exciting about your run pack arriving! I hope you are feeling better now and able to run at the weekend? Remember, as others have said, maybe the goal is to complete the 10k and not worry about time! Enjoy the atmosphere and the buzz and come back injury free and fired up for the next one! 🙂

I have been out walking with the dog for 3 miles and legs felt fine. I feel tired and my sinuses are full and hurting. I am working tomorrow and hopefully will feel better by Saturday. I would like to do it but don't want to pull out half way round. I think my aim would be to complete the 10k rather than time at the moment. What a turn around a week has made!

See how you feel tomorrow - and worse case scenario, there will be other races if this one doesn't happen. Do what feels right for you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though...🙂

I recently ran a hilly 10k road race on the back of a hacking cough and feeling like poo. I took cough/throats sweet which had eucalyptus and lemon in it, which seemed to help. I also, consciously, made an effort to keep upright as I thought it make might make it easier to breathe

I was fine. You will be too

It'll be FUN. Loads of like-minded folks all, headed the same way

Thank you miss wobble for your first hand experience, that has made me feel more encouraged that it is possible. There are drinks stations and I will take some hydration fluid with me. I will aim to boost my sugar levels before the start as well. I think I will now start some Sudafed decongestion nose spray to try to optimise the breathing. I am trying to throw everything at it lol.

Make sure you are not taking anything which will make you drowsy 😃 check the ingredients! I put olbas oil on my hankie and on my duvet cover and pillow for days, and on my neck. I had mentholatum under my nose!

There was a 4km climb from the off and as I very slowly climbed it I kept thinking I had had it before I started. i hung in though, as you have paid and trained for weeks to just chuck in the towel
