I had only completed one of the Week 2 runs so far this week, so I was determined to get out this morning. I even plotted my route using Walk/Jog/Run so that I would have the right distance for the podcast. Then I had one of those mornings where I thought everything was going to plan, but just after I'd started Sam's podcast and started MapMyRun I realised that I didn't have a front door key. So I proceeded to career around inside for a bit trying to find a key.
It was only a couple of minutes and then I was off, and all was well as I strode into my warm up walk. It was only when I needed to run that I realised I hadn't heard a peep from MapMyRun and I find the pacing really helpful. So I stopped and fiddled around half taking off my jacket to get to my phone (which is on my arm under my sleeve), nearly freezing to death in the process. I gave the App a good talking too and pressed resume, and off I sped forgetting to turn the screen off. After a couple of minutes I felt that the phone holder was working loose on my arm, so had a fiddle to tighten it up and then continued. It was only after I'd finished the first 15 minute run that I realised I still hadn't had an update from MapMyRun, my phone was still playing up, but once I'd sorted it again it was telling method my pace perks was 2.2minutes (yeah right... in my dreams). So I decided to ignore it and carried on regardless.
It was a nice route, out from Luton into the neighbouring village of Caddington, and then on to a little hamlet called Woodside, before cutting back through the fields, over the motorway and finishing off in my local park. Sam's accompanying tracks were a help. Towards the end of the third 15 minute run, however I was begging Sam to tell me to slow down and walk, but she was nowhere to be seen (or heard), my legs felt like lead, but I was determined to keep going. My only mantra being, "Come on Sam...please..." as I desperately wanted to stop. A few minutes later all became clear as the next podcast started. I had failed to hear Sam give me the instruction to slow down for the cool down walk, and had actually run 5 minutes longer than necessary. No wonder I had had to back track on part of my plotted route.
Feeling foolish I headed for home, but was rewarded with the sight of a bright green parakeet fluttering in front of me!
I've replotted my route on the computer and found that I actually covered 10.44k in 1 hour and 2 minutes. No wonder my legs were complaining this afternoon when I traipsed round Sainsbury's to do the weekly shop.
I'm now headed for the couch and some afternoon tv. (Not sure whether I should give Parkrun a miss tomorrow.)
