Back to running again after quite a long break with a bad cough which sapped all my energy.
My previous 2 runs before I fell ill had been Week 3 of Sammi Murphy 3x17, which I was finding ok. I had also done a 30 min non-stop run before those 'to make sure a I still could'...
Once I felt ready to run again last Saturday I thought I should work back up to where I left off and started with Week 9 of c25k...just 30 mins with Laura. This went fine and I enjoyed it. I thought that I would start doing B210k again by doing one of each week for my next few runs...
Today I set off on Week 1 which is 4 x 10mins full of expectation...but was surprised how tough I found it. The first 10 mins was fine, but after the recovery walk instead of feeling relaxed for the second 10 mins I felt like I was working hard. The first half of the third 10 mins was also tiring but then at last I felt relaxed and more confident with the run. This lasted until the final two mins and for the first time in ages I was begging Sammi to say 'thats it you're done'... I felt very tired at the end. I recovered quickly and am pleased that I did it, but now have doubts...what would you suggest I do next time (Saturday)?
A non stop run, Week 1 again or go for a Week 2 (3 x 15mins)? Advice needed please.😊
I know there is ju-ju- 's 10k plan, but I don't think I can do this as I don't measure my distance when running so have no idea how to do 2.5k or 5.5k etc. My phone is tucked away safely in a running belt and my mp3 is is zipped up in my pocket. I don't wear a watch and just rely on the podcasts for instructions..
What do you think?😆

I use mapometer website to plan my run to the distance I require and then I just run it. No apps needed. I use my gps watch to track it and log my runs and my ipod to listen to music. I never take my phone as it is too large!! You can follow ju-ju plan that way.
Thanks Hidden that is a good idea. I will look into Runkeeper as at the moment use Strava on my phone to track my distance, but don't know how far til I get home. 😊xx
I can hear Runkeeper woman announcing the duration and distance and average pace with my phone in my bag (quite cringemaking when people I am passing can hear her too)
I do this with endomondo. I have the volume right up on my phone so I hear the laptimes, then I can still hear it over my soft music /podcasts playing via my headphones. But sometimes the laptime announcement comes just as I'm at somewhere busy or passing a family out on a walk etc... just try to tell myself they probably think I'm training for something important!
I also have Runkeeper announcing from around my belly area how long I've been running. Everyone can hear, but there's normally not many people around. Plus I only have it set on time. She calls out every five minutes, but also tells me how long I've been running every time I hit a km. So only I know how many Kms I've run - anyone else just hears "21 mins 30 secs" or whatever.
No, it'll be with us for a while. Really cold, but supposed to be sunny at the weekend. Looking forward to running in sun and snow. But am terribly slow at the moment!
You tend to progress most if you're enjoying it. So have a think about which of the options would put you in the best mood and cause you least trouble, and do that one.
Don't fret about peripheral stuff. Go steady, progress carefully and just follow the programme as much as possible. I think you can expect to be a bit puffed as Sami podcasts are bloody tough. I got well bogged down on week four but did em a few times before moving on
Enjoy yourself. This is good times 😃 The journey to 10k is brilliant. So rewarding but go steady 🙂
I am doing the Sammy podcasts. However I am not running all three in one week as I find this too tiring. . I have decided I will do two a week but will aim to increase distance on one of these, so I need my MapmyRun to tell me how far I have traveled.
My third run a week is a 3k interval run at the moment.
I am keen not to feel too pressured and find this is currently working for me.
With thanks to Tomas I decided that the run that would please me most this morning was Stepping Stones...
So I set off with Laura, for a 30 min non stop run. I did struggle with a cramping in my left calf (caused by doing a 8k walk yesterday in flat warm furry boots with no support) which I hoped I could run off.
So a slow run, but my breathing was fine, the best part was the last five mins when the leg pain went away...
It seems that you can't rush things. I need to do more of these to build my stamina back up before doing the B210k runs again. So I'm back with Laura for a few weeks 😊..on the lookout for snowdrops that herald that spring is on its way.
