Niggly Soreness

Evening all,

Graduated before Christmas and have been running up to 5k three times a week but have developed a bit of soreness in my lower tummy area shortly after a run - Goes after a day or so and not too bad but wondered if anyone else had encountered this - Does my core need strengthening?

Cheers

Haven't had anything like that, maybe go to see your doctor, could be unrelated to running maybe. Let us know how it goes

I agree it sounds unrelated to running. I occasionally get a stitch in the left of my stomach during a run if I'm underhydrated or having a weird day stomach-wise - in short I can normally attribute it to a non-running reason. Maybe look to other aspects of your lifestyle or ask a doc if it's becoming a problem. Core strengthening wouldn't do any harm though - good idea to try that :)

Hi Ruth it's not pain as such just a niggle - I have the classic middle aged belly and maybe do need to core strengthen - No other symptoms tho!!!

Maybe supportive clothing would help in that case? Do you think things are 'moving' that don't normally move? It took me a while to admit I needed a sports bra... Not saying you need a belly bra! But perhaps a new running top made of supportive fabric might help?

Could be Ruth I just wear a baggy shirt so maybe some tighter clothing!!! It's just annoying

I was also a very delayed convert to proper running gear. Maybe that's it! Try googling belly support running tops etc :)

The problem is that running doesn't always exercise our problem areas. My arms are pretty weak and no amount of running is going to strentpgthen them. I have a tummy too but it is only losing weight through diet that will go plus core strengthening exercise to sort out the muscles. I had a niggly chest pain the other week and I didn't go to the doctor about it, just kept running and it went. I have made big changes to my food which is also helping me to feel better

I'll echo Ruth's suggestion of a visit to the doc. While groups like this are great for getting advice about how other people have dealt with specific issues, yours sounds like it might be falling outside what people have personal experience with.
