back to square one - horizontal with the flu

we’ll, I have been thrown back to square 1 with all my training. A flu has struck me well down. We just managed to have a wonderful Christmas, but then both hubby and I went down with severe coughs, headaches and diarrhoea. The irony, as it has only been one week after my flu jab! And 3 weeks after the last flu.

it always seems to affect now my tummy, which prolongs the recovery time.

Sigh. It’s been the most ill-ridden year I’ve had for a long time, so I’m hoping it’s not becoming a pattern.

So I’ll be out for a week or so. I’ll just have to start from scratch again, after recovery.

Oh my goodness... this is not what we wanted to read! You have had such a rough time,... Thank goodness your celebrations went ahead okay.

I do know a few folk on the forum have been really laid low with this new flu... despite having the flu injections too.. Our own MissUnderstanding will empathise with you, I feel sure!

Take care... stay warm hydrated and just recover slowly.

You know it, as do we all...the runs wait ! x

Thank you. Yea, was trying to find how effective this years flu jab is, and it might be that it could have been even worse an illness without the jab. But it seems to take 2 weeks for the flu jab to take full effect.

Hum ho. Yes, the runs will have to wait.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that CBDB I had my flu jab a couple of months ago and I’ve never had any issues since, despite many of those around me being affected. It seems to be just bad luck in your case 😒

Hope you feel better soon and can get back out there again and enjoy yourself 👍

Here’s hoping that that’s it for at least a year! Fingers crossed.

Feel better sooner than you think, CBDB ! (I thought I'd mix up that wish a bit...)

It's so frustrating to have to start again - and you had just done that. Hopefully, this'll be it for a while, though! 🤗

Thank you, yes indeed annoying. But hum ho.

Saw your last run, which looked so refreshing! Well done!

Oh rotten luck! Once you are into convalescence... fresh air is good, exercise can wait.

(There's still plenty of... that other thing... around but people don't seem to be testing much)

Yeah, also had a covid jab at the same time as a flu jab. It does feel these are mixed up now quite a bit.

Bummer.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rough.

After my flu/COVID jabs I had a coldy bug for a few days, not sure if it was the jabs or a coincidence. There are an awful lot of bugs around at the moment. In the last year I've had more colds than I can remember. I never used to catch them, none for maybe 12-14 years. I've heard that COVID can damage your immune response, I wonder if it's true.

Get well soon!

Oh no - so sorry to read this. There is so much around at the moment. Hope you feel better soon.🤞

Yeah. It feels like that doesn’t it. I wonder if that is a common thing after a pandemic coronavirus, as I think that’s where our common flue came from, from the 1920s(?) flue epidemic? Hum ho.

ohhh….sorry to hear you’re not well CBDB ..it’s really taking its toll on you at the moment isn’t it? Hopefully though, you’ll be back at it soon & get through the rest of the winter without another setback…I don’t need to tell you this I know, but make sure you shake this one off properly before you start again…sending you a Yorkshire hug to help with the healing process 😉

Hope you're soon feeling better. I've been poorly over Christmas too with cough, cold and upset tum. Haven't had a run for nearly 2 weeks. Today is the first day I feel I've got some energy. Going to have a short run tomorrow and see how it goes. Don't worry about starting again, your body will remember what to do. Just take it steady to begin with and you'll be fine. Until you feel better just keep warm and hydrated. 2025 will be a better Year for you 🙏

Thank you. Yeah, it’s annoying when it hits the tummy as well. We took to getting some bio-yoghurt with probiotics to ensure my tummy recovers quickly and I feel it helps. Will take it easy but am still far from being able to run.

Sorry to hear and I hope for a speedy recovery for you all. However, it's getting around as I have been exactly the same and am into the second week of it . I was at the doctor's last Monday and an thinking of going back again. I also foolishly thought I was a lot better and went for a very easy run yesterday. Boy did my chest suffer afterwards.

Hopefully it will be gone and out of our systems soon.

Oh dear. Yeah, taking it slowly sounds like a very sensible way forward. Hope your recovery is smooth.
