I'm training to run a 10K in aid of cancer research as I lost my husband to cancer in October.

Training is going well ran 5.3 miles yesterday, so not far off my goal now.

Found ParkRun to be an enjoyable event to take part in.

I'm so sorry that you've suffered such a loss. That must be very hard.

I think what you're doing is brilliant and it sounds as if you've put the training in as you are nearly there! Have you got a race booked?

Thanks, no not yet as I needed to see if I was capable of getting to 10K as I've had lots of different injuries over the years that come with living a farming life. But so far I've not had any problems.

Will be taking a look in the New Year as to what runs cancer research are holding in my area.

I'm sorry for your loss. I am glad your training is going well. What is your target training run distance before your event and when is it. I would say at 5.3 miles you would possible be there already. We say if you can run 7km you can do a 10km event. So with the conversion to miles you are doing more than ok. Good luck with your training and please keep coming back and let us know how your going.

Thanks my aim is to be able to run 10K comfortably so if I train just over the 10K I should be ok, most days I can get into the zone and find it easy but occasionally I do find it difficult to focus on that run then it seems like hard work.

Welcome to the world of training for an event. Your not alone. Some days I can go out and I feel like I'm flying other days my legs feel like they are on fire. Nutrition, hydration and sleep play a big part on how are training goes. Your body will be dealing with stress as well so if it really is saying it's too hard take the pace down to help avoid injury, you'll pick it up again at your next run. Good luck. I see you are Dalby forest. I'm a Whitby girl at heart living in London, that must be a great park run.

Well done Gilly, I hope your running helps just a little bit in those moments when you need it.

That looks like a fab setting - was that your parkrun? What a wonderful place to run.

You are certainly set for that 10k, if you're anything like some of us on here, (me included) you'd like to have the confidence you can do the distance before the event, even though actual training plans don't usually take you to the full distance you'll be 'racing'.

Good luck, don't forget to post on here, and don't forget the piccie, especially if there's bling! 😄🏅

Yes it was Dalby Park Run, I think I was 39th and another PB of 27.57.

Just been out on a training run this morning and managed 5.5 miles a lot of hills in a head wind so not easy going at all.

My thoughts go out to you, Gilly, after your recent loss.

You are so nearly at your target - if you can run 5.3 miles, 6.2 miles (10K) is well within reach.

Best of luck! x

Thanks so much IrishJohn, it really helps to get out for a run. Wishing you all the best for what you are experiencing at the moment. Do try to get out for a run it's a way of off loading. X
