I did 14km this morning in my run up to a half marathon in October, and will admit I felt a bit feeble! Time not great either- 1hr 55mins
My time for 7km is 49mins, so whilst I'm pleased I was able to do it, I'm a bit disappointed.
I was away in Glasgow this weekend for my first ever visit, and I walked loads each day seeing as much of the city as I could. I wonder whether that had an effect?

Congratulations. We all get hung up on pace but you should be proud, not disappointed with your effort.......you ran for nearly two hours, which is no mean feat. Whereas it is perfectly possible to run 5k and maybe 10k, with no prior preparation, running longer distances does require pre planning.
Your strenuous walking may well have depleted your reserves, which you will dig deep into on a long run. You also need to replenish fluids and energy reserves once you are running over an hour. I still have not managed to get the refuelling correct after three years, as it is a matter of trial and error and getting it wrong leads to a severe drop off of pace in the latter stages.
However, as with 5k, once you are familiar with the distance, you will find your times improve.
Do some Googling about refuelling during runs. I normally use a muesli bar or similar and if running more than 12k will refuel at 45mins and then every 20 mins or so. Same with fluids. As I said, still working on it. One other important thing is a good night's sleep beforehand. I have abandoned some planned runs simply because I did not sleep well the night before.
You are now on the learning curve about how everything you do affects your running.........
Wow ! Well done Jojo , excellent run , you should be very proud of yourself !
I am experimenting with the High 5 energy gels at the mo and haven't suffered any ill affects so far . I read that you should have one when you start, and then every 30 minutes into your run .
I also take water with a coupla pinches of salt and I also have a little stash of dried fruit and jelly beans in my bum bag .
It's all a learning curve isn't it ? Every day's a school day xxx
That is not a bad time. You can't expect to do 14k at the same pace as 7k unless you are well trained in those distances. Also remember that during training your long runs should be kept nice and slow - most of us have an inclination to run them faster than is good for us
Very impressed jojo57 . Always look at the positives, we (that is all runners) worry about pace but it doesn't matter what anyone else does in terms of speed its all about you as an individual and what you can do. Just being out there for 2 hours is amazing. I use an energy gel when running a longer distance but as IannodaTruffe says it's all trial and error. Keep it up
