Too many hills...๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Well, with my first 10k trail event planned for next weekend, we decided to head over to the area to check out the course this afternoon. I was prepared for 'undulating' and I was prepared for a couple of 'hills' but not for a course, that to me, seemed to consist of nothing other than hills!!๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ With the exception of the first half a km or so, the route is entirely hilly and, hand on heart, far too physically challenging for this 51year old mud loving trail newbie! Even my husband, who is normally very much of the 'you'll be fine' type of support, puffed out his cheeks a lot as we slogged up and down (and that's just walking) before agreeing with me that I might not be ready for such a run!๐Ÿ˜” I so wanted to do a trail run folks, but this one is just not to be - not if I want to remain injury free for the Bristol 10k which I am running with my sister two weeks later. So, with heavy heart and reminding myself that 'discretion is the better part of valour', I will not be running next weekend but shall set my sights on finding a trail run more suited to my beginner status! I have included hills in my training - but there's 'hills' and then there's 'LOTS of hills' and I just don't want to die out there yet!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‰.

On a more positive note, I did have a fab 11k trail run yesterday (threw in a couple of hills too), so maybe next year I will be ready for a bigger challenge!๐Ÿ™‚

    Disappointing... yes, but we all have to do the right thing sometimes!!! Hills.. are a bit of a pest..LOTS of hills are horrid... !

    You keep on with your trails and when the Bristol 10K comes, you will fly it :)

  • Thanks Oldfloss. Disappointed yes, but there will be others. Would hate to get injured doing something I am  not ready for and not be able to run on my lovely (less hilly) trails!

  • Discretion is the better part of valour and in this case sensible , although dis appointing I am sure . There are hills and there are hills

  • I think that is very sensible, Sandra, and absolutely the right thing to do.  There is no point whatsoever in overfacing yourself and either injuring yourself or just getting discouraged mid-race and perhaps pulling out.  What a good thing you went to check it out first!  The Bristol 10k with your sister is far more important and you need to be in top condition for that.

  • Awww.. Never mind! I don't mind a couple of hills now, as they're good for us, but not one after the other over 10km, so understand that..๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Jeepers, that course sounds drastic. I think you're right to leave it, enjoy running the 10k in Bristol with your sister and another trail run might turn up which is not quite so arduous. Are there many people who actually enjoy running on such hilly terrain? Can't really imagine it.
