Hi Rfc, I agree this will be a great community for those who are transitioning from 5k to 10k, especially after completing the c25k programme!
A programme/guide that myself and a few of my friends have used is from Runner's World. They have follow along programmes that can be used depending on how many weeks you are running before you reach your goal and also how many times a week you plan to run.
I didn't follow a specific plan to get to 10k after C25K - just extended one long run per week by half a k or so and eventually got there. I don't do regular 10k runs - it feels a bit far for me, as I am quite slow (run/walk pace about 7.45m/k) - I usually just run for an hour on my longer runs once a week and see how far that takes me. Now I know I can do it, that was kind of enough for me!
I don't do races; I run solo; I occasionally get demotivated if I think too much about how fast everyone else goes when I know I'm doing my best, which is not very constructive; I'm not particularly competitive.
I mainly run to assuage the guilt for all those slices of cake, to keep my fitness up (which is the best it's ever been since I was at primary school) and because I CAN, which is the best thing of all!
I did my first 10k using Julie Creffield's plan as I'd not heard of Sami back then. To be fair though Sami's is just running whereas Julie's gave you detailed instructions on the exercises you should be doing to get you fit to get to 10k. Being fit for it is key! Don't try and stint on the fitness stuff as you could get injured.
