Hi

My mom is stage 4 breast and Stage 3c ovarian cancer patient. Currently she is taking tamoxifen for breast cancer metasize to bones.

For Ovarian cancer she had complete hysterectomy, Oophorectomy 1 yr back and completed 6 cycles of Chemo.

Her CA125 is being checked every 3 months. Now slowly her CA125 is raising and is 40.5. Her CA125 was 12 after treatment an year back.

Her Oncologist has suggested wait and watch approach as she has no symptoms.

Can you please suggest of the approach is standard?

Dear Checddd,

Your oncologist is practising evidence based Oncology. As per the MRC-05 Trial enrolling over 1400 patients, (like your mother scenario), there is no impact of Immediate Vs Delayed treatment.

Rising CA-125 alone should not be the criteria to start Treatment. Clinical symptoms and Imaging findings should be taken into account.

Statistically speaking your mother will need some treatment in 5 months time from now, and whether you started treatment right now, or in 5 months time : There would have been no detrimental outcome.

I ve never heard about Moringa leaves, but feel free to try it. Enquire with some Expert Complementary Therapist .

All the best !

I agree with Dr. Rohit. Follow up regularly with your Oncologist. There is a chance he may get the CA 125 repeated within 6 weeks to check any further rise or not. For all you know, it may come down as well. So don't worry. Just be in touch with your doc. Take care.
