Small pleasures

Yesterday I was given some silk worms along with fresh mulberry leaves which they love.

My 8 yr old granddaughter and I decorated a shoe box with cut outs and stickers and named all 15 of these little creatures. Seeing the joy and delight on the faces of the other grandchildren (2,3,5,) was wonderful. Two of the worms have spun silk cocoons already and we will wait for them to turn into moths .

On letrizole now after chemo with intermittent sharp pains in joints , stiffness etc , this little session proved that simple pleasures do alleviate pain , at least for a while !

I’m counting my blessings . Best wishes to all

Hi Mrs Nails . Nice to hear from you , thanks. I see you’ve had so far a v interesting career , in a similar field to me ; I did general nurse training in NZ then worked in London 3 years all over the city different hospitals. Married in return home but in 1980 came to uk with my husband, who dies 1987. I started a v small rehab home for mentally ill which grew, and I retired and sold up last year.

Now ten little grandchildren to spoil !, from my 4 children .

Hope you are keeping well and enjoying this balmy weather

Good to hear from you Denise, the weather is a little challenging at the moment 🥵

On first look at your photo l did a double take as you look very much like my Mum when she was younger.

After Chemo had finished & the Oncologist deemed l was fit enough to travel we went on a Cruise to the Canary Islands & called in at Santa Cruz de La Palma, where we went to the Silk Museum where Manolo Blahnik to this day still has the silk woven for his High End Shoes 👠 it was really fascinating. I’m sure your Grandchildren will enjoy watching them spin their cocoons.

We just have the one Darling Granddaughter so far & she has enriched our lives beyond words.

Keep Well & enjoy those grandchildren.

Kind Regards 🌷

Yes grandchildren are so loving and so very sweet . A great panacea when the going gets tough and situation seems challenging! Sending you happy healthy wishes and a hug

Hi again Angela sorry I got mixed up with Laineys post but interring you went to the silk museum in the Canaries . When you see how fine but how strong each little strand the worms produce you can see why it’s a pricey material.

Hope things are going well and you are enjoying your very precious granddaughter.

Hope you are enjoying the sunshine !

What a lovely post. You brought back so many memories for me as this is what we used to do growing up as children in South Africa. All the best with your treatment. Thanks for making me smile. It truly is the beauty and the 'small stuff' in life that makes us realisee it is all so well worth living.

Hi Lainey,

Aah! coincidence that my friend who gave me the silkworms is also from SA! He was very kind to give me them for the little ones who are fascinated by them .

By the way talking of your homeland SA springboks drew 16/16 with my AllBlacks!

NZ loves playing against SA and always a great match !

Hope you are doing well and enjoying every day especially on your good days.

Lovely to hear from you thanks
