I had a mammogram and ultrasound which showed a lump so went on to have a biopsy. The results have come back from the biopsy negative, which is fantastic news, but they are still concerned as they don't know what the lump is (and the lump on the scans were suspicious) so have now referred me for an mri scan.
I've now gone from being really pleased that the result was negative to really concerned again to what else it might be, or worse, is the biopsy wrong? Does anyone know the process after an MRI scan, would I have to go through a biopsy again? And can I just tell them that whatever it is to take it out as it obviously isn't meant to be there?
So confused.
Thanks
Leah

Hi Leah if you post this question on the WoMMeN hub or Facebook page you'll get an immediate answer from a mammographer, this is the specialist who takes the images. The WoMMeN hub is WoMMeN.org.uk and the Facebook page can be found by searching in fb for WoMMeN breast screening
Hi Leah. The advice (below) looks very helpful. But this may be the beginning of your journey to STAND UP TO cancer if this is what it turns out to be. Here are my mantras (a) discipline yourself not to worry about anything unless the evidence is right in front of your eyes (i.e. an actual, concrete result) (b) believe that you will live a long and fulfilled life, no matter what the outcome. Wishing you all the best and lots of hugs xxxxx
I'd look at it as a good thing, they are being extra vigilant and are not sending you away without exhausting every option.
I have had many, many MRI scans (was part of a family history clinic for BC) they're OK just a bit uncomfortable.. they are very detailed so will hopefully help your consultant see what the lump is straightaway.
You will probably have a regular MRI first, this is great for spotting anything, however tiny. I had 2 areas of concern, one was spotted on my mammogram and one on MRI. The MRI 'picked up' one couldn't be seen on ultrasound or mammogram so proves how helpful they are. They get a good idea of what your lump is based on its shape so even though your biopsy was negative they still want to be 100 % sure its not cancerous.
I ended up having an MRI guided biopsy, which wasn't pleasant but did determine what mine was - invasive ductal carcinoma and a fast growing bugger too!
Not sure but they may take it out (my MRI guided biopsy took the whole tumour as apparently there was nothing left when i had my mastectomy! the MRI should shed some light on what it is...
The Macmillan forum is great for advice and if you ask a question someone replies quite quickly, community.macmillan.org.uk
So I have had my MRI and got results today - inconclusive! So then have had another ultrasound and biopsy. Another weeks wait for the next set of results. Gutted no conclusion, but also pleased no positive result,
I’m on my second biopsy which I’ve had this morning . Told me last week I had periductal mastitus and had to take a week of horrid antibiotics been back today scan still not clear . Surgeon now not sure what it is and I’ve had another biopsy taken 😢
