I saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago because my period is all over the place.. some months I get it once and others twice. She checked my hormones and did swabs which all came back normal. The length of my cycle since september is 14, 16, 16, 15, 29, 31, 14, 13, 16, 17. Does anyone else have a cycle like this? Ive read birth control can solve this problem but Im not sure where to go from here. I have written this down to show my doctor tomorrow but wondered what other people had done about it.

Irregular Menstrual Cycle.
It depends on your age and whether you had children before. If you are relatively young and never had children, and plan to have children some day, I would just go to a private fertility doctor if I were you. I went to NHS doctors several times over 3 years and they found nothing. I went to a private doctor just once and they found I had something serious on my ovaries causing all the problems with my periods I experienced. But I don’t know what you have. However short cycles means it’s less likely for you to be able to have children, and also it interferes with your lifestyle, so you might want to have it checked out by a specialist: have a scan pre and post ovulation to check if and when you ovulate, hormones at different times of the month, etc. There’s many tests that can be done but the NHS don’t usually do them no matter how many times you ask.
Short cycles dont always mean youll have problems concieving, it depends on the cause
Im going to see a gynacologist on June 5th. My doctor said they may have found some cysts on my last scan so she wants me to have another one to see if theyre there. If they arent then shes asked I either have another type of test or try a hormone for it.
That’s good. You must have a really good doctor if they sent you to a gynaecologist. I was sent for a scan once and they said they couldn’t see anything strange. Then, a year later I went again, and they told me they didn’t want to send me for another scan because I had one a year ago, which was ridiculous in my honest opinion. There’s a lot of things that can happen in a year. Anyway, 6 months later I went to a private gynaecologist and they found a 3.5cm cyst. If I was actually sent earlier when I asked, they could have found it when it was smaller. I hope they find out what’s wrong and sort it out for you. Good luck!
She is a good doctor. I have scans fairly often and my last one (Feb time) they think they may have found cysts so hopefully I find out whats going on. Really nervous about going but Im sure everything will be fine I just dont know what to expect. Glad they found it eventually!!
I don’t know what to expect either. I have never been referred to a gynaecologist by a GP yet. I got pregnant though and at the prenatal scan they acted surprised I’ve never had my cyst seen on the NHS before, so they referred me to my GP and I’m going next week. I will have to explain I had to go private because the last GP I went to just refused to refer me. I hope it’s nothing too serious for you. I don’t know what the NHS gynaecologist will say but the private one I went to explained to me what my options are, and considering I wanted to have children I chose no treatment. On the NHS, I think they will say the same thing. I will only start treatment after I’ve had children so it’s just a waste of time to me right now, but I have to go. I think they might also ask you if you want to have children and if you don’t right now, you might be put on medication, depending on what you have.
I had this exact same problem my doctor out me on the pill at 1 to deal with it, however the best thing i found was when i had the implant in for six years. I am currently expecting my 3rd child so it all depends on why you have irregular periods i am actually highly fertile and have never had a problem getting pregnant. They never found the cause of my irregular and very heavy and painful periods they just are, but other than some inconvinience which i can handle if im not on contraception its never caused me any more problems than really bad period cramps. I am 27 now.
