Hi just looking to see if anyone has had the amino test ? I am 35 and 14 weeks pregnant and iv got results back that my risk of Down syndrome has come back 1 in 141 chance so it's high but I'm unsure what to do as there's a risk of miscarriage ? Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Once I got pregnant I ordered and read The Secret Diary of a Pregnant Woman, Aged 37 1/2. by actress Julie Walters. Very funny book, and prepared me a bit for this pregnancy.
She did that test when she was pregnant like 30 years ago. She heard of the side effect of this test - but when she had hers done - it was nothing like people have told / scared her about. There was no pain. She felt usual herself.
I suppose it depends on each body and how it reacts afterwards.
I hope some more help will appear and will help you to make the decision!
I think if I were you I would ask myself a question : if my baby had that syndrome - would something change in my feelings towards my baby, having it? If answer is no , then I would put the baby and myself at unnecessairy risk by having that test done. But I know how you feel - I would be the same if I were you: getting anxious and want to know everything.
Hi there, i had the amnio test done & it didn't hurt at all. I had it done at the Birmingham women's hospital. You could always pay between £400-500 & simply have a private blood test done - the Harmony test or Panama test - which are both more accurate than the NHS screening test...I think the NHS are hoping to roll one of them out one day to replace their own.
The Amnio test has a very very small risk of miscarriage about 1% or less, but the consultant would know whilst performing the test if anything is going wrong. I am now 31 weeks pregnant & doing fine & my amnio test was all clear.
Good luck in whatever you decide - I know it's a very frightening time. In most cases the baby is absolutely fine. The NHS screening test gives too many false positives & has caused countless women to worry needlessly hence the desire to replace it.
