Looking for reliable long term contraception but not to sure about IUD. So please tell me about your experience on use of IUD.

Also if you have any suggestions on which contraceptive is best.

Hello.

First thing to know is that you'll be unlikely to have the IUD if you've not yet given birth. The IUD relies on a more 'stretched' cervix. I tried to have one inserted once and it was extremely painful. Other than that I cannot give any advice specifically on the IUD.

Contraception varies from person to person. You could enquire about the implant which is a little metal rod that goes into your arm and if I remember correctly it lasts for 3 years. I couldn't come right with it as it completely messed up my periods but a few years ago I lived with a girl who also had the implant and she had no problems with it whatsoever. I'm guessing you're looking for something where you don't have to remember to take a pill each day?

Also consider which contraception is best for you in the long term. By which I mean: if you're on the contraception and do decide you want to try for a baby how long would it take after you've come off the contraception before your hormones and body return to normal and you're able to conceive.

Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about what it is that you want and together you can decide what's best for you.

Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much for you reply. Actually, i am a mother of 2 and i am not planning to have anymore children as i have had most difficult pregnancy. Anyways, i have been thinking to get copper coil done but researching about it has scard me. So this is the reason i wanted an advice on which one is better in long term with less side effects.
