Hi I had a nova t coil fitted a week ago and im still bleeding on and off. It's quite light, but I'm still getting cramps. The cramps are worse after exercise. Should I be worried? How long should I wait before going back to the doctors? i've never had any bad reactions to contraception in the past. Thank you.

Hi Hannah,

Oh I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your coil. It is perfectly normal to spot after having a copper coil fitted. Are you booked to go back for a follow-up appointment at the clinic that fitted your coil? Most clinics do usually arrange an appointment at around 6 weeks after having the coil fitted. However, if you are concerned about the pain or the level of bleeding you should absolutely go back earlier.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Katherine
