Hi everyone new on this site so here goes. I am in hospital at the moment with a bad bout of diverticulitis, treating with intravenous antibiotics, and pain management for my many other health issues. I don’t know that much about diverticulitis and the staff in the hospital mostly too busy to give me any answers . What I wanted to know is it common to be admitted to hospital with this?what can I do to help myself? I get very constipated as ITake dihydracodieine once a day at night60 mg is there an alternative med for pain? I also take Pregablin and Paracetamol on occasion . Also is it unwise to take laxatives every day to keep things moving? Can it damage your bowel even more . Can anyone explain what causes the severe pain and what causes you not being able to pass wind ext Thankyou for your patience in reading this

People are often hospitalised with a bad bout of diverticulitis. Because there are pouches in your bowel that get infected. One question you should ask is has your bowel perforated. Mine did and It was not found until five months later, By that time I had developed a very large abscess and had to have a bowel resection. This is complicated and you should talk to your specialist about it because it’s vital to get the correct answers. Yes it can occur because of constipation, but in my case it was just there because I’m a vegetarian and never constipated. It is a complicated disease.
