Hello I broke my shoulder last year so I did a dexa scan. Bad news, I have osteoporosis. Very brittle bones. I also have Multiple sclerosis. I am also a chicken when it comes to taking medicine. My GP prescribed me bonine. I read about it and didn't take it. Now I am supposed to get an infusion of reclast. Has anyone taken any medicine for osteoporosis and what was your experience? Bonus points if anyone is on reclast. I have never drank milk and try to limit any steroids I night need. I am currently drinking orange juice daily and eating vitamin D and 2 tums at night. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for reading

Hi Jenny, so sorry about your diagnosis of osteoporosis. It’s a lot to take in on top of MS. I also have been diagnosed recently and figuring out meds. I know a bit about Reclast - Zolendronic acid infusions because both my mum and my sister had those when they had cancer treatment. Their experience was very good. No side effects at all. I hope you find the right solution for you.
Sorry to hear that you have osteoporosis. I was diagnosed Christmas 2023, along with myelopathy. I am now on Prolia for my bones but does nothing for the pain. Good luck with your new journey.
hi Jenny, I also have MS and osteoporosis as well as high blood pressure and only take tablets for my hbp but now only take 25mcg for that. I have switched over to a low carb diet as I know that sugar in any form causes me problems. Luckily for me I have not broken anything although I fall on a regular basis, so I assume that my bones are flexible. Vitamin D is a good start but you need to take K2 with it as it directs calcium to the bones. I would look into nutrition and what bones are made of as a first port of call. Best wishes
I broke my shoulder in 2016 & then a rib in 2023 only just had my diagnosis after requesting it in mar last year, still not been able to talk to a doctor about results T-3.4, I have never drunk milk but started having a glass of skimmed milk every day (it's not too bad really & more you have it'll just be a habit & won't think about it)& having greek yoghut in afternoon with some fruit, vit D & calcium scores have always been fine when had a blood test
Thank you all for your responses. I am still doing some research about Reclast infusion. I am starting a gym membership to help save my bones. Thank you so much. I appreciate it
Hi Jenny, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis last year and decided to not take medication. The medication I was prescribed Fosamax, being that I suffer with Acid Reflux, I decided against the medication and started doing strength training, taking vitamin D + K , drinking kefir and eating diet high in calcium.
I used to take Pepcid and after reading that “regular use of antacids like Tums can weaken bones and increase the risk of osteoporosis. This is because some antacids contain aluminum or magnesium, which can interfere with the body's absorption of calcium and phosphorous. Bones are made of calcium and phosphorous”.
Thank you for your reply. I also have Gerd or acid reflux. I have also had 15 kidney stones and I believe could be caused by tums. I limit tums except for 2 per night to help my calcium. I am going to hire a personal trainer to help with strength. I have an appointment next week to tell my primary I dont want to take medicine for my osteoporosis. Thank you again. I'll keep moving along as best as I can. Good luck to youJenny
