I'm post Kidney Transplant with many problems, and one is Osteoporosis. My Endocrinologist wanted to put me on Reclast and I declined. Now, he wants to put me on Prolia. There seems to be many side effects to this also. I was on Fosomax and had many bad abdominal side effects. I'm told these are my only options now. Is there "anything" else out there that someone may have used with success that is safe for the kidney?

Prolia can cause calcium levels to drop dangerously low levels. My former nephrologist also a Vanderbilt University professor claims there are literally no...no...no studies whatsoever on osteoporosis medications and dialysis/transplant people. Any prescribing of these meds is solely based on literature regarding general population. I had taken Fosamax for several years and discontinued by nephrologist. Then pcp sent me to a specialist who gave me one prolia injection. I stopped once I ended up with a hairline fracture of tibia. I quit all osteoporosis meds. No worse off than before. Blessings
Hi, I’m 3 years post liver transplant and developed Osteoporosis and have been taking Alendronic Acic and Adcal D3 pre (when I was diagnosed with hepatic Sarcodosis) and post transplant.
